Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to examine the social service Housing First. Housing First specifies in helping homeless people with the main goal to end chronic homelessness. Our study specifically interacts with homeless people with an addiction. The data for this study has been collected by interviewing four people who have participated in the Housing First program. To analyze the data we used a thematic analysis, which is a qualitative method. The study contains self-determination theory, recovery approach and Giddens theory about self identity as theoretical basis. The empirical results indicate that participants in the Housing First program are satisfied with the support given, and feel the social service employees were trustworthy. Participants have conveyed a decrease, and in some cases entirely quitting the substance use. The theoretical analysis has identified lifestyle changes on account to autonomy, recovery and self identity. The discussion has examined similarities and differences between the previous research and the empirical material, as well as providing an answer to our thesis and given insight to further continue the research.
