To the followers of the esoteric philosophy of the Order of Nine Angles (ONA), the spiritual concept of acausality justifies the promotion of violence, hatred and terrorism. In this master’s dissertation, I examine the partially concealed and, in academia, previously overlooked presence of Martin Heidegger’s existentialism within ONA’s acausal thinking, while parallelly comparing the group’s far-future objectives with the academic field of philosophic longtermism. Linking the temporal theories of alleged ONA founder David Myatt to enablement of far-right extremism turned esoteric, I utilize Olav Hammer’s work on esoteric discourse to accentuate how Heidegger’s philosophy has been mirrored and mystified in ONA doctrine, a teaching developed mainly in 1980’s England, but continued and spread world- wide to this day. Leaning heavily on Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis set of theory and method, the study highlights the discursive practices used by the ONA in the esoterization of exoteric, non-Occult knowledge. I denote the ONA’s convergence of existentialism and a National Socialism enveloped in Satanism as an expression of a white supremacy mindset, in dialogue with Andrew R. Hom’s work on Heidegger’s philosophical effect on modern day neo-Nazism, and I construe Myatt’s ultimate goal of a future Galactic Imperium as an esoteric articulation of the infamous neo-Nazi 14 words slogan: “We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children”. Furthermore, I show how ONA writers adhering to Myatt’s credo, creating a so-called hyper-real religion, are apologizing violence with a self-described intellectualism enriched by a spiritualism animated by science-fiction and various strands of philosophy.
