Abstract [en]
What the mission of preschool is, should be, and how preschool teachers should relate to the mission has been a political debate for several centuries. Preschool operations have undergone profound changes that have also affected the responsibilities that various professional roles within preschool are now expected to take. At the same time, discussions about the interaction between preschool teachers and the entire work team have become topical, where an expectation that the work group will cooperate and develop a common view has taken shape. The purpose of the thesis is therefore to investigate the social processes of two groups of preschool teachers in terms of actions and communication, using two theoretical approaches that focus on interactions and communities of practice. Thus, I aim to examine the significance of expectations, learning processes, and conditions for the preschool teachers' interactions, attitudes, and approaches to the work team. Through semi-structured interviews and shadowing observations, the thesis explores (1) What significance can expectations of the preschool teacher profession have for interactions, attitudes, and approaches between preschool teachers and their teams? (2) What impact can differ conditions within preschools have on attitudes, approaches, and interactions between preschool teachers and work teams? And (3) What significance can learning processes have for attitudes, approaches, and interactions between preschool teachers and the work team? The results indicate that it is through the preschool teachers' shared practices, both among themselves and with the pedagogues and the children, that attitudes, consensus and common approaches and working methods have developed. The results indicate that expectations, conditions, and learning processes can affect attitudes and approaches in interaction in different and similar ways. All factors highlight the complexity of interaction and the task in the similarities and differences that exist between preschool teachers and work teams. This analysis contributes further insights into the role that collective attitudes and approaches play in the actions and communication that take place.
