Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The study aims to look at how the triangular dynamics of influencer marketing, FOMO and BNPL interact to influence consumption behaviour among young adults between the ages of 18-30. Social comparison, consumer desire, parasocial relationships and the threshold model serve as theoretical tools for analysing the dynamics. The study conducted individual interviews and focus groups to gain a deeper understanding of the issues that may arise. The results showed how influencers in several cases create enhanced feelings of FOMO and increased willingness to consume, especially with time limited offers. When BNPL services are offered, the young adults threshold value is lowered, where they exceed their limit and impulsive consumption behaviour occurs. The participants show consideration of the influencers professional role as marketers, but manage to be influenced both subtly and more directly. In most cases, the young adults experience that it can be beneficial and create value for them. At the same time, skepticism is raised about how the content of influencers can in some cases appear too commercial.
