Abstract [en]

Education without guidelines: A Qualitative Study on Staff Perceptions of Working with the Curriculum in the After-School Care Setting for the Adapted Primary School. The After-School Care performs a vital role in the children's upbringing in primary school. The curriculum for primary school states that after-school care should operate as a complement to the school teaching, stimulate children´s learning, and offer meaningful leisure time. Adapted primary school has its own curriculum while the after-school care for adapted primary school shares the curriculum with the primary school. According to the curriculum, the after-school care teaching should be established with a group-oriented focus, while the respondents from our study emphasize the need for individualized teaching in adapted primary schools. The purpose of this study is to highlight how the absence of a curriculum for after-school care in adapted primary schools affects teaching practices within these settings. The study's results show that the challenges are not solely from the absence of an adapted after-school care chapter in the curriculum. A significant contributing factor is the inadequacy of the staff's knowledge. In Sweden, the lack of trained staff in after school-care lack pedagogical training, which impacts the pupil´s academic outcomes.
