Abstract [en]
Job satisfaction is affected by various conditions, yet much of the existing research has focused on external factors rather than on personal attributes. Psychological capital is a combination of hope, efficacy, resilience, and optimism which can be viewed as a personal resource that potentially shapes individuals’ satisfaction with their work. The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between psychological capital and overall job satisfaction, regardless of occupation. Data from 192 Swedish employees (132 women and 60 men), aged 21 to 65, was collected through a self-reported questionnaire. The results indicated a strong positive correlation (r = 0.54, p < 0.001) between psychological capital and job satisfaction. Multiple regression analyses further revealed that the four components of psychological capital combined serve as a significant predictor of job satisfaction (Adj. R² = 0.42). This indicates that individuals with higher levels of psychological capital are more likely to experience greater satisfaction with their work. Strengthening psychological capital may increase job satisfaction and its associated benefits. Future research could investigate this relationship in occupations characterized by solitary work, examine potential gender differences, and explore variations between urban and rural settings.
