This study explores the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on social work, with a focus on the social services sector. AI is often promoted as a tool to streamline administrative tasks and enhance decision-making, yet it raises critical questions regarding legal safeguards, ethics, and professional roles. Using qualitative interviews and thematic analysis, the study identifies five key themes. The first theme highlights AI:s potential to reduce administrative burdens and support preventive work. The second examines shifts in professional roles, emphasizing new skill requirements. The third addresses legal and ethical challenges, such as data protection and algorithmic bias. The fourth discusses efficiency gains and obstacles to implementation, while the fifth underscores the importance of user involvement and strategic processes to support social work. Theories of Street-Level Bureaucracy and professionalism are employed to analyze how new technologies influence practitioners' discretion and client relationships. The findings contribute insights into the implications of AI for social work and outline the organizational and societal conditions necessary for sustainable implementation. This study aims to illuminate the complex relationships between technology, professions, and clients and explores how AI can enhance social work in ethical and effective ways.

 Vi undersöker hur artificiell intelligens (AI) påverkar socialt arbete. AI framhålls som ett verktyg för att effektivisera administrativa arbetsuppgifter och förbättra beslutsfattande, men väcker frågor om rättssäkerhet, etik och professionella roller. Studien använder kvalitativa intervjuer och tematisk analys för att identifiera möjligheter och utmaningar. Fem teman framträder, där det första temat belyser AI:s potential att minska administrativa bördor och stärka det förebyggande arbetet. Det andra temat fokuserar på förändringar i den professionella rollen, med nya kompetenskrav. Det tredje temat tar upp juridiska och etiska utmaningar, såsom dataskydd och algoritmisk bias. Det fjärde temat diskuterar effektivisering och hinder vid implementering. Det femte temat betonar användarinvolvering och strategiska processer för att stödja socialt arbete. Teorier som Street-Level Bureaucracy och professionsteori används för att analysera hur ny teknik påverkar arbetssättet och de professionellas handlingsutrymme inom socialt arbete. Uppsatsen bidrar med insikter om AI:s möjligheter och utmaningar inom socialt arbete, med fokus på hur tekniken kan påverka arbetsbelastningen och de kompetenskrav som ställs på yrkesutövare. Genom att undersöka de organisatoriska, rättsliga och etiska förutsättningar som krävs för en hållbar implementering, belyser studien hur AI kan integreras inom socialt arbete på ett sätt som stärker arbetet och bevarar dess etiska och professionella grund.
