Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

This study aims to understand the risk factors associated with young people falling into drug abuse. The study is based on an abductive qualitative research approach, and to obtain the results, five semi-structured interviews have been conducted. The interviewees were found through snowball sampling and were former drug abusers who fell into drug abuse between the ages of 13-17. The method used to code the material is the thematic analysis method. The results are presented based on four themes: (1) family relationships and childhood, (2) friends, (3) schooling, and (4) developing drug abuse. The study is based on two theoretical perspectives: attachment theory and social learning theory. The results show that young people's development of drug abuse is influenced by their childhood and family members, such as their attachment to their parents and their siblings' habits. Furthermore, the study's results show that young people's surroundings affect their behavior. Risk factors for young people developing drug abuse include negative schooling and friends who abuse drugs.
