Abstract [en]

The aim of this study has been to investigate what risk factors there are for juvenile delinquency, what social workers offer and whether they work preventively with the problem through a qualitative method. The questions have been investigated based on the social workers' experiences and working life experiences. The study has also been limited to young people between the ages of 15 and 20 who live in Stockholm. The results show that the risk factors which, according to the social workers, are often the basis for juvenile delinquency are low socio-economic status, poor social circle, lack of schooling and lack of parenting and social safety net. They explained that juvenile delinquency is a multifaceted problem. It usually involves several different factors that lead to juvenile delinquency. The results also showed that social workers have different interventions for young people, but also their parents. This is done with the aim of, for example, strengthening parenting skills and improving their parenting methods, as well as overcoming juvenile delinquency. Regarding whether social workers work preventively with the problem, it emerged that the informants shared different opinions about it. While some considered it not to be preventive, the others shared the opposite.
