Abstract [en]

Society is affected by the ongoing development of digitalisation and this affects companies andtheir operations. New digital tools and new processes change working methods and business models. The auditing industry is affected by digitalisation as there is room to automate workflows. Thiscan release more time and make work more efficient, but it can also mean that human labor is replaced by digital technology. However, the technology required when the auditing firms want to optimize the work is costly and in many cases difficult to afford to implement for the smaller firmswho are the most represented in Sweden as of today. The thesis examines how the ongoing digitization according to auditors has changed the various parts of the audit process and what impact it hashad on smaller companies' business models. To get an answer to this, these questions are asked:How has digitalisation affected the auditing firms' business models? How has digitalisation affectedthe three parts of the audit process: planning, review and reporting? The theory includes Business Model Canvas where Planning, Review, Reporting was reviewed aswell as the blocks Customer segments, Customer relations, Key resources, Revenue flows and Coststructure. The data has been collected with semi-structured interviews conducted with 13 authorizedpublic accountants in Sweden. The results show that the extent to which the processes within theaudit work have been digitized differs both between the parts of the process and between differentcompanies. The business models of companies have changed with digitalisation. Customers can befound at longer distances, communication can take place digitally and the relationship with customers can be nurtured in an efficient and direct way. Parts of the work that have been facilitated bydigital tools are primarily planning (information retrieval) and review (with analysis tools). Digitization has meant that time has been saved that can be spent on other things, such as counseling. Thestudy also shows that digitalisation has affected the industry in a positive way as efficiency has increased and that even small companies in the industry strive to be up to date in new technology. Thestudy also shows that digitalisation is now creating both increased efficiency and productivity incompanies that use the technology, which may indicate that Solow's paradox no longer applies tosmaller companies in the auditing industry.
