Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to increase the understanding of how case workers who treat partners of alcoholics use and understand the term codependency, and investigate which discourses are constructed in the case workers speech concerning codependency. This project was completed through interviews with 4 different case workers at two different treatment clinics in Sweden. In this study we have used a critical discourse analysis as our assumed framework, and analyzed the empirical data using Norman Faircloughs three dimensional model in which the result showed that codependency is understood and described as a condition where you adopt a behaviour similar to the abuser. From analysis of the case workers speech we created four discourses, the discourse of responsibility, discourse of normality, discourse of disease and discourse of perception. Using the studies theoretical perspectives we have concluded that gender and sex have partly been constructed through the speech of case workers concerning the term codependency.
