This study examines how sexual and reproductive rights, particularly abortion rights, are portrayed in Swedish newspapers. The analysis focuses on editorial articles from three major newspapers. Using feminist critical discourse analysis, forty-seven articles published between the years of 2022 and 2024 were analysed to identify dominant discourses. The findings reveal three main discourses: abortion as an individual right, a moral issue, or a political conflict. Liberal newspapers primarily frame abortion as a fundamental right tied to women’s autonomy, often using affective language to mobilize support. In contrast, moderate press emphasizes political and legal aspects, reducing abortion to a governance issue. Affective economies and framing theory highlight how emotions and media representations shape public opinion. The study demonstrates that ideological orientation influences both language and prioritization of abortion in media agendas.
