Abstract [sv]
The point of departure of the project is gender constructions in radical social movements in Sweden during the 1960s and 70s. The aim is to analyse how masculinity and political ideology and practice were interrelated in the revolutionary left in Sweden. I will analyze the constructions of collective identities and discourses of masculinity and politics. How did masculinty work and what became unmanly in the devlopment of politics? Books, articles and archive materials are the main sources and I will use discourse analysies to study the norms and ideas. if norms about masculinity prescript a certain way of doing masculinity as well as politics, it is not so easy to dissociate from this and start tolking about the importance of childrens day care centers for example. that is to dissociate from norms of both masculinity and revolutionary politics. At present, hardly no studies at all deals with the gender constructions in radical social movements during the 1960s and 70s. This study can add knowledge and understanding about how gender orders are produced and reproduced within social movements and what impact it had on the political ideologies that were formed.
