    Abstract [en]

    Title: Leadership in the creative process: A study about small computer game companies.

    Problem: Currently there is a lack of studies that focus on different leadership perspectives effect on creativity within groups. There is a lack of information about how leadership shapes and the leadership’s role in the creative process, especially in creative intensive industries. A big part of previous research focuses on countries like USA and Japan, but not Sweden. The computer game industry is a fast changing industry, therefore there are many challenges and business opportunities that organizations might lack knowledge about.

    Purpose: The purpose of this essay is to gain an understanding for what leadership in the creative process in small computer game companies look like. At the same time we want contribute knowledge and understanding about the leadership's influence on the creative process.

    Method: The study is based on a interpretive social science perspective with a qualitative research strategy. A phenomenological approach has been used to capture the respondent's’ experience of leadership in the creative process in the computer game industry with the help of semi structured interviews. The research approach was abductive due to the researchers constantly going between data and known theories when searching after the most probable explanations. During processing of data a phenomenographic data analysis model was used.

    Conclusion: Different leadership perspectives work differently under different circumstances. According to the theoretical framework leadership theories does not necessarily exclude one from another, rather aspects from different leadership theories are combinable. Since there are many kinds of computer game companies it is imperative to understand one’s own organization and to be open to pick aspects from different leadership theories to tailor a leadership perspective that fits the organization's context.

    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of the study is to examine whether there is a connection between conflicts that arise between the students and the free play at the leisure center, and how these conflicts are handled. I answered the study's question with the help of qualitative interviews and observations. I interviewed four educators at four different leisure centers, and observed these activities. I have analyzed the empirical data from the sociocultural perspective. The result showed a clear connection between conflicts that arise between the students and the free play. The results also showed that the teachers in the leisure activities make use of the conflict management method mediation.

    The purpose of this study is through a teacher perspective gain insight to the knowledge former Sodertorn teacher students possess of intercultural pedagogy and if they use it at work. The studies main perspective is the intercultural perspective, which has been the study's lead perspective. This study also made use out of a sociocultural perspective as it fits with the intercultural perspective and puts its mark in the study.

    This study has used interviews for data collection. Five former Sodertorn teacher students were interviewed, the interview participants work as teachers. These five teachers’ experiences and statements were the focus of this study, the teachers had to demonstrate their intercultural skills and how they use these skills in their classroom. The study showed that four out of five interviewed teachers use intercultural education, these teachers always try to find students development zones and prior knowledge. Intercultural pedagogy approach for example focuses on the students' culture, knowledge, belongings and background. The four out of five interview participants that use intercultural pedagogy hope that their students get a deeper understanding of people that possess a different culture, religion and background. The four out of five teachers use intercultural strategies and these strategies are considered applicable when it comes to intercultural perspective.

    Bakgrund​: En ökad globalisering, internationalisering och invandring runt om i världen idag har påverkat näringslivet på olika sätt. Effekterna av detta har haft en kulturell inverkan på Sveriges organisationer. År 1945 ersattes arbetskraftsinvandringen med flykting- och anhöriginvandring. Invandringen har inneburit att den kulturella och religiösa heterogeniteteni det svenska samhället har ökat jämfört med åren innan, vilket har bland annat skapat kulturella utmaningar för företagen i Sverige.

    Problemdiskussion:​ Kulturell mångfald har bidragit till olikheter på arbetsplatsen som har skapat utmaningar för företagen. Olikheterna är allt ifrån sättet man tänker, hur man utför sitt jobb, språket man talar till sättet man klär sig och de symboler man bär. Det är inte alltid de kulturella värderingarna går i enlighet med företagets värderingar och normer. Frågan är hurföretagen ser på dessa utmaningar och hur de hanterar dem.

    Forskningsfråga:​ Hur arbetar företag inom transportbranschen med kulturell mångfald och hur definierar dem utmaningarna som kommer med mångfald bland de anställda?

    Syfte: ​Studien syftar till att undersöka hur företag inom persontransportsektorn arbetar med kulturell mångfald bland de anställda samt hur de hanterar utmaningarna kring den.

    Metod:​ Vi har valt att använda den kvalitativa metoden för att samla information. I vår kvalitativa forskningsmetod har vi använt oss utav semistrukturerade intervjuer bestående av öppna frågor med ledningen för att förstå hur de valda företagen arbetar med mångfald.

    Resultat:​ De fyra företag som undersökts i studien har alla sitt sätt att arbeta med den kulturella mångfalden, men inget av företagen har i dagsläget en medveten strategi som specificerar arbetet med kulturell mångfald på en djupare nivå. Därmed hanterar företagen de utmaningar som uppkommer i samband med detta först när diskriminering eller händelser som strider mot jämställdheten uppstår

    Abstract [en]

    Problem: This study aims to examine the factors that influence the individual's different choice of risk level. Demographic characteristics are the underlying factors being analyzed in the study with a special emphasis on geographic factors – this in order to analyze and explain the Swedish individual’s approach to risk. Based on certified private advisers’ perspective, the study will also examine their approach to manage individuals’ risk.

    Purpose: Studying the differences in risk aversion among individuals when making investment decisions, based on demographic factors and geographical areas.

    Theory: The essay’s theoretical framework deals with theories covering behavioral finance, the risk appetite development in individuals at a demographic and geographic way, and an overview of previous research on the subject.

    Method: We conducted a quantitative study in which 340 respondents were asked to answer a survey. We also interviewed three certified counselors from three different banks in Sweden.

    Conclusions: In line with behavioral finance theory, people are not rational when making investment decisions. The study concludes that people in big cities tend to be more risk-averse than people in smaller cities. Sex is shown to be a differentiating factor with men having a higher risk-aversion than women. A higher income and level of education leads to a higher risk attitude and marital status affects the risk appetite where a married person has a higher risk appetite than a person who is single. Age and education, showed to have no relationship to the level of risk.

    Gymnasieskolan är för eleverna en avgiftsfri och frivillig skolform. Kommunerna är skyldiga att erbjuda folkbokförda elever som avslutat grundskolan en gymnasieutbildning. Allt fler väljer dock att läsa på andra skolors kommuner. Elever som väljer att läsa på andra skolor har andra ersättningskostnader. Detta gör det svårt att budgetera för hur fördelningen av resurser blir för året. Sigtuna kommun förväntar sig ett underskott i en av nämnderna under kommunfullmäktige under året. Denna prognos baseras på ett delårsbokslut den sista augusti för Arlandagymnasiet där ett underskott på 2.5 miljoner kronor upptäcktes. Underskottet väntas bli 10 miljoner kronor till årsslutet. 6 Problemet idag börjar när kommunernasövergripande strategier, mål och visioner bryts ned på verksamhetsnivå. En modell för den ekonomiska styrningen inom nämnden är idag avsaknad eller inte fullgod.

    Frågan som ställs i denna uppsats är; hur kan den strategiska ekonomistyrningen för gymnasieverksamheten i utbildnings- och arbetsmarknadsnämnden i Sigtuna kommun förbättras utifrån givna ekonomiska ramar från kommunfullmäktige? KSL(Kommunförbundet Stockholms län) har tagit fram en kalkylmodell för beräkning av programkostnader inom gymnasieskolan. Syftet med modellen är att alla kommuner ska beräkna interkommunala ersättningar på samma sätt. Sigtuna kommunen blandar även den interkommunala ersättningen med anslagen gymnasieledningen får. Dessa ska och bör vara uppdelade då detta inte ger en rättvisande bild, eller något att bygga utifrån enligt gymnasiechefen. Det främsta styrverktyget de använder sig av är budgeten, som man enligt kommunallagen måste upprätta. Ett förslag är att använda sig av riktade resultatkrav ibudgetarbetet, detta vilket ger en bättre överblick över vilka enheter som behöver komma i ekonomisk balans. Ett annat förslag är att jobba mer med fler nyckeltal som implementeras och följs upp på verksamhetsnivå.

    Abstract [en]

    Growth induced export has become a major concern for policy makers to transform and upgrade the export composition to achieve economic growth objectives; in this respect, export diversification become at the heart of growth induced export narrative. Nevertheless, this study attempts to find relationship between export diversification and economic growth. To investigate this relationship, a cross-section method is used with averaged data from the period 1991 to 2009 of 41 sub Saharan Africa countries; moreover, diagnostic tests were conducted to ensure the robustness of the model. The empirical result of this study shows positive correlation between export diversification and economic growth which can be concluded that export diversification promotes economic growth.

    Abstract [en]

    The aim of this study is to investigate how elementary school teachers use conceptual understanding in the teaching of the variable concept, namely, how these teachers connect the variable concept with other areas of mathematics, such as algebraic expressions. 

    The empirical data was obtained by qualitative methods comprising interviews with five mathematic elementary school teachers. In addition three observations in three classrooms were made; one observation is in grade 4 and the other two are in grade 6.The theoretical framework is based on Kilpatrick et al. (2001) theories: conceptual understanding, strategic competence and procedural fluency. Furthermore the theory of representations of Bergsten et. al (1997) and Persson (2010) were used in the theoretical framework.

    The results of this study show that none of the five participating teachers connects the variable concept to other areas of mathematics, such as algebraic expressions. However, two of them mention the variable concept in equations, problem-solving, algebraic expressions and shapes, but without explaining the meaning of the variable concept or how that concept is used and integrated into these mentioned areas of mathematics. Furthermore the study shows that the other three participating teachers mention the variable only to one to two areas of mathematics. These areas are problem- solving and shapes. These teachers do not explain how the variable concept is used in the mentioned areas of mathematics, but they focus on how the calculation will be performed to solve the data they used. The participating teachers do not use any representations to explain the variable concept and how it’s connected to the other areas of mathematics. In conclusion, the variable concept was not explained and its connection to other mathematical areas was not addressed, which due to the absence of usage of conceptual understanding in teaching the variable concept.

    Abstract [en]

    The aim is to examine how teachers view their leadership, how leadership is used and developed, and what kind of perceptions teachers have of leadership and how it is important to their students.

    My questions are: 

    • In what ways can the teachers develop their leadership?
    • In what ways can the teachers make use of leadership in the classroom?
    • What do the teachers in the study consider to be a good leadership?
    • What do the teachers inte the study think of their leadership and its´ importance to students?

    The study uses a qualitative research method and consists of interviews with four teachers working in a school south of Stockholm. The results of the study shows that teachers´ leadership in the classroom has a significance for students´ learning and development. The teachers´style of leadership should not be static and should be adapted to students´development level. The results also shows that teachers´ leadership in the classroom is about various tasks. The conclusions are that the teacher in her/his leadership needs to be democratic and allow students to affect the activities in the classroom, but also use an authoritarian leadership to get an effective classroom.

    The aim of the study is to examine which strategies do elementary school teachers use to motivate their students to read, and what strategies do teachers and students consider to be the most effective: Internal or external motivation. The methods for collecting data have been observations, interviews and webpages, and thud the study contains both quantitative and qualitative elements. The result of the current study showed that teachers used both inner and outer motivations to motivate students with intention of adapting teaching to the students' needs and conditions as mentioned in the curriculum.The results also displayed that students are motivated by both external and internal motivation, for example, inner motivation was created when students experienced responsibility for their learning, while external motivation was when students learning involved reward and assessment.

    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of the study is to examine how feedback on written texts is given at secondary school level in the subject of English, and what effects the different feedback methods provide. The purpose is also to investigate what level of student texts the teacher mainly focuses on when providing feedback: the task level, the metacognitive level, the process level or the personal level. The essay is based on interviews, observations and content analysis of teachers' comments. The result showed that the motivations behind the methods, as well as the methods themselves, were similar between institutions and educators. The preferred method of communicating the feedback was to do it in writing, rather than orally. Finally, the results displayed that teachers combine giving feedback at a task-level, a process level, a metacognitive level, and a personal level.

    Abstract [sv]

    Syfte: Studien avser att undersöka om det går att påvisa ett samband mellan goodwillnedskrivningar och företagets ekonomiska utveckling, företagsledningens incitament och företagets bolagsstyrning bland bolag i Sverige. Då den svenska bolagsstyrningsmodellen och ägarstrukturen skiljer sig från den anglosaxiska, syftar studien även till att utvärdera om utfallen i denna studie avviker från en tidigare genomförd studie i Storbritannien och om avvikelserna kan hänföras till just skillnaderna i ländernas ägarstruktur och bolagsstyrning.  

    Metod: Metoden är en replikering av en tidigare studie. Vi har använt oss av en kvantitativ metod, med deduktiv ansats. Studiens primära analysmodell är en Tobitregressionsanalys. Empirin är hämtad från databasen FactSet samt manuell granskning av årsredovisningar. Studien baserar sig på samtliga noterade bolag på Nasdaq Stockholm per den 1 oktober 2018 för åren 2015, 2016 och 2017. Detta resulterade i ett totalt urval om 330 bolag och 990 observationer. Efter bortfall baserat på olika förbehåll uppgick det slutliga urvalet till 408 observationer, varav 74 med och 334 utan rapporterade goodwillnedskrivningar.

    Slutsatser: Studien fann inget statistiskt säkerställt samband mellan företagets ekonomiska utveckling och goodwillnedskrivningar. Däremot tyder studien på att de bolag vars bokförda värde på eget kapital överstiger dess marknadsvärde redovisar goodwillnedskrivningar i större utsträckning. Vad gäller företagsledningens incitament till att manipulera resultatet så visade studien på ett signifikant samband mellan VD-byten och goodwillnedskrivningar. Detta indikerar att en nytillsatt VD använder sig av resultatmanipulering för egen vinning. Vi fann inget signifikant samband mellan företagens bolagsstyrningsmekanismer och nedskrivning av goodwill. Utfallen i den tidigare studien, som baserar sig på bolag i Storbritannien, skiljer sig markant från utfallen i vår studie. Detta skulle kunna förklaras av att ägarstrukturen och bolagsstyrningsprinciperna skiljer sig åt mellan länderna.

    PolitologInnen sind in der gegenwärtigen kontroversen Debatte zur Biomedizinpolitik sowohl mit wissenschaftlichen Analysen als auch als ExpertInnen in einschlägigen Beratungsgremien erstaunlich abwesend. Dabei könnte die Politikwissenschaft mit ihren unterschiedlichen Teildisziplinen wichtige Beiträge zur Erforschung von Biomedizinpolitik leisten. Für das Fehlen kann ein Bündel von Faktoren identifiziert werden, von der Spezifik des Politikfeldes über methodologische und theoretische Orientierungen der Politikwissenschaft bis hin zu wissenschaftspolitischen Motiven. Ein zentraler Grund ist die Überschneidung dreier Themen- und Problemfelder, die im politikwissenschaftlichen Mainstream tendenziell als außerpolitisch gelten und/ oder in unzureichender Weise theoretisch erfasst sind: Körper, Ethik und Naturwissenschaften/ Technologie. Feministische Politikwissenschaft ist in verschiedener Hinsicht für die Analyse von Biomedizinpolitik besser gerüstet, da sie mit der Analyse von Körperpolitik und mit normativen Fragen Erfahrungen hat.'     Syftet med denna uppsats är att beskriva ledarskapet i kunskapsintensiva företag med avseende på hur den situationsanpassade ledarskapsmodellen påverkat utformningen av deras interna chefsprogram och vad det finns för stöd för cheferna i deras ledarroll. Studien är baserad på en fallstudie av tre stycken läkemedelsföretag där vi intervjuat totalt nio personer, en HR- ansvarig och två mellanchefer på respektive företag. Studien har genomförts med hjälp av semistrukturerade intervjuer där det är intervjusvaren som ligger till grund för resultatet. I studien framkom det att alla tre företagen använder situationsanpassat ledarskap men att de tillämpar detta på olika sätt i organisationen och att ledningen och företaget använder modellen när de ska anpassa sig efter individen och situationen. En kunskapsintensiv organisation kännetecknas av självgående individer som kan vara svåra att styra och därför är det viktigt att en chef kan hantera detta och anpassa sin ledarstil utifrån den enskilda individens behov. Utifrån analysen visade det sig att respondenterna ser situationsanpassat ledarskap som något som återkommer i allt ledarskap.

    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of this paper is to examine how six students who attend a high school relate to their multilingualism and emphasize how their multilingualism has affected their views of themselves and their identity. The fundamental questions were:

    • How do six students who attend a secondary school relate to their multilingualism?
    • How has students' multilingualism affected their views of themselves and their identity?

    I did use a qualitative research method in terms of interviews to receive answers for my inquiries.

    Carla Jonsson (2010) speaks inter alia about “the third space” which concerns adolescents creating a “third room”. Almqvist (2006) believes that adolescents that are exposed to discrimination and prejudices can lead to them turning their backs on society in disappointment. Boyd (1985) has, in his thesis, found that multilingual students communicate with the majority language and with their mother tongue with their parents. Sjöqvist & Lindberg (1996) believe that people gain access to other cultures through their multilingualism which leads to new ways of thinking.

    The result of my investigation showed that the informants were in favor of their multilingualism and they see it as a benefit. The informants have created their own identity by combining their homeland’s language with the majority language. They see themselves as a resource for the society.

    Abstract [en]

    Background and problematization: The demands of CSR have increased in both Sweden and the rest of the world. A sector which has during the 2000s increased its commitment to CSR issues is the banking industry. Banks have a great economic importance for society, but also a great importance for sustainability and social development. Banks are active in socially responsible companies and are inclined to report information about their CSR activities. Despite this, banks have not had a great attention in the field of CSR research compared to other sectors. Few studies within CSR have also been longitudinal.

    Purpose: The purpose of this study is to describe and analyze how the four largest Swedish banks Handelsbanken, SEB, Nordea and Swedbank have presented their CSR activities during 2000-2010.

    Research question: How have the CSR activities been formed within the four largest banks in Sweden between the years 2000-2010?

    Method: For this study has a qualitative content analysis of the four largest banks annual reports and sustainability reports during 2000-2010 been conducted. In the content analysis, emerging coding has been used where categories were developed after an examination of the empirical material. The content was divided into four themes: stakeholders, environment, ethics and philanthropy.

    Result and conclusion: The result in this study shows that the banks have presented CSR activities in similar areas which are stakeholders, environment, ethics and philanthropy. All the banks had extended their responsibilities and had an active participation in CSR issues during 2000-2010. The differences between their CSR activities are mostly when they developed them, but in the end the banks have tended to be similar in their CSR.

    Det här är en studie om den svenska dagstidningsrapporteringen om inledningen av den arabiska våren i Tunisien, Egypten och Libyen under år 2011. Vår utgångspunkt är de tolv klassiska nyhetsvärderingsteorierna, med tyngd på geografisk, kulturell och ekonomisk närhet.

    Uppsatsen syfte är att få bättre kännedom om likheterna och skillnaderna i den svenska rapporteringen från de tre länderna Tunisien, Egypten och Libyen. Vi undersöker två veckor för varje land i Dagens Nyheter och Svenska Dagbladet. Vi har valt att se tidningarna som en gemensam portal för den svenska internationella mediebevakningen.

    Vi har gjort en kvantitativ undersökning, när rapporteringen av upproren började, hur den såg ut och vilka källor man valde att lyfta fram. Vi valde också att göra en mindre kvalitativ intervjuundersökning för att förstå förhållandena för de svenska utrikesreportrarna. Resultatet av analysen visar många likheter mellan länderna. Majoriteten av källorna var andra nyhetsbyråer. Största skillnaden var hur man skapade närhet till händelserna i de olika länderna. I Egypten så fokuserade journalisterna mer på att lyfta fram svenskarna i upproret och att ta upp vardagsproblem som publiken kunde identifiera sig med, till exempel att maten började ta slut i butikerna eller känslan över att demokratiska rättigheter var hotade. Tunisiens rapportering var mer folkorienterad medan artiklarna om Libyen hade mer fokus på elitpersoner. Den arabiska våren påverkade resten av världen både ekonomiskt och politiskt vilket gav ett högt nyhetsvärde i tidningarna.

    Syftet med denna uppsats är att testa Modigliani och Millers teorem i praktiken, samt undersöka om svenska och amerikanska företags val av kapitalstruktur har någon påverkan på deras företagsvärde och avkastning på eget kapital.

    Uppsatsen har använt sig av en kvantitativ ansats där regressionsanalys och hypotesprövning har utförts för att mäta sambandet mellan variablerna.

    Franco Modigliani och Merton Millers teorem om kapitalstruktur visade att valet av finansiering har betydelse för ett företags värde. Ett företag finansierat med skulder blir på grund av skattereduktioner högre värderat än ett obelånat företag.  

    Svenska företag visar ett relativt starkt samband mellan skuldsättningsgrad och P/BV till skillnad från de amerikanska där det inte förekommer ett samband. Både de svenska och amerikanska företagen visade ett klart samband mellan skuldsättningsgraden och avkastning på eget kapital, samt ett samband mellan företagsvärde och avkastning på eget kapital.

    This is a quantitative survey of young people's news habits and trust in media. Our main points mainly concern how and how often young people consume news, and what confidence they have in different news sources. The result shows that half of the 126 respondents are consuming news every day. Social media is the respondents main source of news, and they think it's easiest to get news from there. At the same time, it appears that the surveyed people have low confidence in social media as a news source, compared to traditional media such as television, radio and newspapers, that only a few of the respondents use as main sources for news. We discuss how this outcome may affect journalism in the future, as the new generation of media- and news-consumers choose new media in front of traditional ones.

    Abstract

    To benefit the economic growth of a country, it is important for the inhabitants to make the decision to become business owners. Sweden today, apart from the rest of Europe, is facing a growing problem. The numbers of companies are growing, but the numbers of company owners are not. As a result of this, the employment is not able to develop under the same conditions, when the opportunities of employment decrease. Research shows, that the interest for owning a company among the Swedish youth has increased. However, it has not increased amongst the young and highly educated people. During a time where the numbers of college educated people are increasing and to that, the long-term educational programs are becoming more common, this becomes a serious problem for the future of Sweden. Among the young and highly educated there are the business graduates, which in theory are considered to possess the knowledge it takes to become the company owners of the future.

    The aim with this thesis is to, with a quantitative study, analyze the entrepreneurial propensity among highly educated business students. To fulfil the aim we will investigate five different variables; gender, family background, ethnical background, knowledge and experience and experienced risk. To collect this information we are searching for both quantitative and qualitative information.

    The implemented survey of 77 highly educated business students at Södertörns University College shows that the entrepreneurial propensity amongst the students is low. A difference can be seen between the students that are positive and the students that are negative to starting their own business. Amongst the students that are positive one can see that the propensity is higher in the variables of knowledge and experience and experienced risk. Furthermore, the results of the survey research show that family background and ethnical background have the least relevance to the entrepreneurial propensity.

    The conclusion explains the underlying factors that show that the reason why highly educated business students choose to become an employee rather then starting their own business is their low entrepreneurial propensity. What affects the students low entrepreneurial propensity and therefore their choice not to start their own business is the lack of knowledge in the area, both theoretical and practical. A larger practical knowledge leads to a decrease in the experienced risk relating to starting a business, which is the second important factor to why students choose employment rather than a business of their own.

    Abstract [en]

    This thesis is a comparative analysis between two books from the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris. We chose to work with book 1 - Dead Until Dark and book 10 - Dead in the Family. Our analysis is based on a gender perspective, using the litterature we present in previous research and theory. The aim for the thesis was to examine how gender and sexuality is portrayed in the books. In addition, we have looked at how the books represent gender norms in society through their characters and if named characters change throughout the series. We have applied comparative analysis and Nikolajeva's scheme on stereotypical males and females in litterature. We chose to analyse the four main characters - Sookie, Bill, Eric and Sam. In our analysis we discuss how the balance of power between the characters is portrayed as well as their gender and sexuality in relation to each other.

    Our analysis indicate that the characters are mainly portrayed with stereotypical gender norms and the comparison between the two books shows us no or very little development of named norms. Moreover, we observed that Sookies female gender is portrayed in relation to the three male characters, Bill, Eric and Sam. In addition, the male characters gender is also described in relation to the female character. Our analysis through Nikolajeva´s scheme depicts the characters in all categories of stereotypical gender roles. Sookie could often be categorized as a normative female whilst Bill and Eric in majority were categorized as normative males. Sams character was the only one to portray both female and male characteristics. This was depicted in both books. Further more, the male genders were portrayed similar in both books although the characters were mentioned more regularly in book 1 compared to book 10. Conclusively, we discussed how the books can be used in class to teach about gender, sexuality and norms. Lastly, we stressed what the positive and negative outcomes for teachers may be and what we think is important in class not to emulate stereotypical gender roles.

    Abstract [en]

    The aim of our graduate work is to study the importance of image and shape’s in children's development and learning and also the preschool teacher’s views on image and shapes. Our research aims to explore the value of image and shapes creation and how it is expressed among children and in classroom activities. We are also interested in finding out how it differs from adults' views and what materials teachers use to promote the image and shapes creation in the curriculum. In our own experience, image and shapes activities are often structured differently in different curriculum activities. We therefore want to study how certain preschools work with image and form creation with children in preschool. We have performed the study through five qualitative interviews with preschool teachers and four observations on three different preschools in Stockholm.

    The main theory of the extension of our work is about Vygotsky's sociocultural perspective. We will find out about how according to the sociocultural perspective children can develop learning. The conclusion we have reached is that the preschool teachers interviewed seem to agree greatly with each other about how image and shapes creation affects for children's development and learning. Although there were some minor differences, for example, if the children learned by imitating each other in creative work. But in this part it was just one preschool teacher who differed from the others' vague.

    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of this study is to investigate the perceptions of the preschool teachers, working with the preschool bus, regarding challenges and children's interactions in different learning environments offered by mobile preschool.

    The metod used in this study is the qualitative semi-structured interviews with four preschool teachers. The theoretical ground used to perform the analyse in the study is represented by socio-cultural perspective and hermeneutic research effort. 

    The study shows that the interaction between children is the same in all environments but that the interaction between children and the environment might be different depending on the development and intrests of the preschool children. The survey shows that this interaction between children and the environment begins before the bus week and that the starting point in the interaction can be expressed by intrest, bus destinations and preschool topic.

    The survey shows that one challenge might be that the preschool children need to be able to adapt to more environments than they are used to. The survey even shows that such challenge can be even greater if there are children with special needs in the group. The preschool bus can be also a challenge in bad weather days since the children have to share space and material.

    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of this study is to investigate how a group of students experience their learning when working in groups, and determine if they prefer to work individually or in groups. This study will also investigate what the students believe that they learn when working in groups. The study is based on these two questions:

    • How and what do students perceive that they learn from working in groups?
    • Do the students in my study prefer to work in groups or individually?

    The method I have used to retrieve information has been to interview four different students. The interviews were individual; I did so to get a deeper view of how students perceive their own learning in groups. I chose a selection of students, two girls and two boys ranging in the ages from 15 to 16 years old, these pupils were all attending the same school. Social Constructivism is the theoretical perspective that my essay is based on. The key concepts of my essay are based on the terms "the horizon of understanding" which come from the hermeneutic research tradition and life-world which is a central concept in the phenomenological research tradition.

    The results from this study show that students believe that the spoken interaction in groups is important. The students believe that their individual learning can be developed further with the help of oral interactions, an example given is when students embrace new ideas and thoughts by talking to each other in groups. Based on the results of the interviews, students feel that their individual learning is affected positively when working in groups.

    This study shows that when students are being asked if they prefer to work in groups or individually, the answer is evenly divided, but with a small majority favoring to work in groups. However, almost all students who participated in my study believe that working in group is almost all the time a fun method of working and studying.

    This study aims to review how men in Sweden who received a late ADHD diagnosis experience their lives with ADHD. The study conducted through a qualitative content analysis of three men's self-biographies. The result showed that life with ADHD for men causes difficulties. The study also showed that ADHD diagnosis could facilitate the situation for the men, but that it still existed difficulties after receiving the ADHD diagnosis. The study showed how much social life and society's view influenced men's experience, feelings, self-esteem, and daily life. However, the study showed that society has norms and expectations which are not adapted for people with ADHD. The study illustrated that it is therefore essential to carry out several studies about how society sees function variations. This can develop better conditions for people with disabilities. Consequently, society can be more adapted to everyone. According to the study, the society can be more adapted to everyone.

    ”Capital Asset Pricing Model” (CAPM) beaktar den centrala marknadsrisken för att förklarasambandet mellan risk och avkastning hos tillgångar. Avkastningskravet betingas enligtmodellen en marknadsriskpremie vid investering i aktier eller andra tillgångar som erhåller risk. Senare studier (Banz 1981, Davis, Fama & French 2000) visar å andra sidan att aktiertill hörandes företag av olika storlek och värde utsätts för en annan typ av risk. Dessa forskare föreslår således att en värde- och storlekspremie bör inkluderas i en ny modell. De nya variablerna som utgår från bolagens olika karaktär beaktas för att särskilja de två karaktäristika som antas påverka förväntad avkastning, vilket den enskilda marknadsrisken ej gör.

    Syftet med studien är att kartlägga om storlek- och värdepremien har en signifikant roll i att förklara avkastning på den svenska aktiemarknaden. Ytterligare relevanta riskpremier skulle ge möjligheten att precisera förväntad avkastning på tillgångar, vilket skulle betyda att ytterligare faktorer av risk bör prissättas och tas hänsyn till. Detta skulle innebära ett bättre verktyg för aktörer på den finansiella marknaden såsom investerare och fondförvaltare vid investeringsbeslut. Riskfaktorerna testas i en statistisk analys med avkastningen från portföljer konstruerade efter olika kombinationer som förklarande variabel för att undersöka riskernas relevans.

    Studien lyckas påvisa att faktorerna förhållandevis väl förklarar avkastning, vilket kan tolkas som att de nya riskpremierna är prissatta riskfaktorer på den svenska aktiemarknaden. Det poängteras även hur värde- och tillväxtbolag exponeras för olika grader av risk och därmed hur avkastningskravet påverkas av dessa olika typer av riskexponeringar.

    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of this study has been to examine the possible relationship between patterns on the stock market and the capital structure of IT-companies. Furthermore, the study attempts to contribute a deeper understanding of the ways Chief Financial Officers (CFO) and Chief Executive Officers (CEO) handle aspects pertaining to levels of debt, solidity, the market when making investment decisions and factors that influence a company´s value. This has been done using the Market Timing Hypothesis as the main theoretical frame of reference. The study has primarily been conducted using quantitative data analysis in the form of multiple regression. Qualitative interviews have been subsequently conducted with the purpose of enhancing the statistical findings. The results from the study indicate that financial decisions largely vary depending on the situation, albeit market value being an influencing factor. Moreover, the profitability of the company and the amount of fixed assets play a role in financial decisions. The respondents further noted that the amount of equity and debt of the company does affect its value.

    This research was carried out during the autumn term in 2014 and aims to highlight the honour context and boys who lives in it in Sweden. The research is based on the experience of professionals who work with honour related questions. The starting point for the study is boys who lives in honour related terms. The study is based in three questions; what is the meaning of living in a honour context? What is it like to live in a honour context for young men? How are the help possibilities for young men in a honour context?

    The study is qualitative and ethnological. The method is used to obtain the empirical material that consists of interviews. The analysis is done using gender-based theories. The study shows the informants experience of honour related violence as well as what actions available today for vulnerable young people with a specific focus on young men. The result shows that young men are a vulnerable group which is not highlighted, the Swedish research has been focused on young girls who are victims of honour related violence. This has led to efforts in place has been directed towards girls and today there is a limited help for young men who are victims.

    Sweden is a multicultural country and because of this the Swedish school-system should be adapted so that all pupils can develop their linguistic skills so that they can participate andunderstand the education. By using scientific work from other researchers and my own experiences from a general point of view, I noticed that pupils with foreign origin perform less good in mathematics than pupils with Swedish origin, in the Swedish education system.

    The purpose of this research is to find out if communication and interplay between the pupils makes it easier for them to understand mathematics and its’ concepts. My research involves acertain school class were all pupils have another etnicity then the Swedish one. My aim was to find out if the pupils reached the knowledge-goals for mathematics in the third grade. Especially in the areas of solution solving and the understanding of mathematical texts. I wanted to find out if communication and interplay between the pupils lead to increasedprogress in the Swedish language and increased understanding of mathematical texts. I also examined what possibilities the pupils have to absorb and understand the education and how favourable the conditions are in their teaching process. My starting points were Vygotskijs’ sociocultural perspective. The main research questions were:

    • Is the language a barrier for the pupils in my research group when they develop their mathematical knowledge?
    • Which approach may enhance the pupils knowledge in mathematics?

    The research is based on interviews with the teacher and observations of the pupils during mathematic lessons. With the help of the empirical material I wanted to increase myunderstanding about the process of learning and development in the class and about how the teacher labours and reflects around the situation. She practiced silent and individual studies in the class. The result of this research showed that the pupils were not benefited by the teachersmethods and that they did not reach the main goals in Swedish and mathematics for the earlier years in Swedish compulsory school. The reason to this result is mainly that language and learning go hand in hand and that mathematics requires a good vocabulary and good reading comprehension.

    Abstract [en]

    Purpose: Venture Capital has been of big importance for new ventures in high technology industries, but has decreased markedly in numbers since the end of the”dot-com” bubble. The main purpose of this thesis was to examine how the IT and communications industry manages the reduction in the private equity market. The second purpose was to study the importance of venture capital on new ventures in the IT and communication industry. The research questions concerns how new ventures manages their financing, how they choose financing and which method they use to pursuit it, as well as how competitors influence them and with their venture capital funding. 

    Method: The study was based on method triangulation with both qualitative data through interviews and quantitative data through researching annual reports. 

    Results and conclusions: Of the twelve researched new ventures has five gotten venture capital. The companies have chosen different financial sources and control aversion was the main cause of internal financing. This study shows that financing sources also can contact companies to invest in. The majority of businesses with venture capital has used external assistance when seeking venture capital investments. Most of the businesses have not been affected from competitors’ venture capital investments.

    Stakeholder demands on corporations to take environmental responsibilities are increasing and an environmentally responsible image could add values such as competitive advantage and a better reputation. To create a favorable image the corporation needs to develop a strong and sincere environmental identity that involves the whole organization. The identity is the way that the organization perceives itself and its self-expression and an environmental identity is one of the multiple identities that an organization can have. Communication is important both internally for establishing the identity and externally to create an environmentally responsible image. The organizational members need to be informed and involved in the responsibilities that the corporation is taken to be able to communicate them further to important external stakeholder groups. This thesis connects theories on corporate and organizational identities with organizational communication, culture and image to explain how the environmental identity and image is constructed. A case study has been conducted on a large Swedish company in the building and property management industry, Riksbyggen. The empirical material has mainly been gathered from interviews and also from participant observations. Nineteen employees and one consultant involved in the environmental communication process were interviewed individually or in focus group. The results showed that the case study organization had created a strong corporate environmental identity with clear visions and symbolic representations. However, the organizational environmental identity where the organizational members identify with the environmental activities was not yet developed fully. One reason behind this is the lack of dialogue opportunities in the organization, which means that the corporate identity is communicated from a top-down perspective. An environmentally responsible image was not established at organizational level either, even if some local initiatives had been successful.

    I början av 1970-talet stod den svenska sjöfarten på sin topp, men efter 1973 och fram till i slutet av 1900-talet kännetecknas de svenska rederierna av tillbakagång. Å andra sidan har Sveriges grannland Danmark upplevt enorm tillväxt inom den nationella sjöfartsindustrin. Denna skillnad har uppstått mellan de båda nationerna trots att Sverige och Danmark generellt sett torde ha liknande grundförutsättningar för att konkurrera på den internationella sjöfartsmarknaden. Baserat på relationen mellan handel och handelsflotta hade den svenskkontrollerade handelsflottan kunnat vara 2,5 gånger större än vad den är idag om Sverige genomgått samma utveckling som Danmark.

    Uppsatsen ämnar, att utifrån ett företagsperspektiv, analysera och utvärdera skillnader mellan svenska och danska rederier. Syftet är att utifrån analysen hitta nyckelfaktorer som lett till den svenska handelssjöfartens försvagning.

    Uppsatsen utgår delvis från en kvantitativ förundersökning i enkätform som används för att få fram ett antal problemfaktorer för svensk handelssjöfart. Dessa problemfaktorer ligger till grund för en kvalitativ undersökning i form av intervjuer med fyra svenska rederier, en svensk bank, ett danskt rederi och den Danska Redareföreningen. Som ett kompliment till den kvalitativa undersökningen utförs även en jämförelse av nyckeltal mellan 9 svenska och 7 danska rederier, samtidigt mellan den svenska och danska sjöfartsnäringen.

    I uppsatsens förstudie framkom fem problemfaktorer, nämligen Omvärldsfaktorer, Arbetskraft, Finansiering och Konkurrensstrategi. Under intervjuerna framkom ytterligare två faktorer – Nätverk och kluster och Uppköp av svenska rederier. Under intervjuerna framgick det även att många av dessa faktorer är starkt sammankopplade och det inte är möjligt att dra distinkta dem emellan.

    Intervjuerna utmynnade i slutsatsen att svensk handelssjöfart idag saknar en näringspolitik som främjar branschens internationella konkurrenskraft. Storlek har betydelse inom handelssjöfarten och Sveriges handelssjöfart saknar i många aspekter denna storlek, mycket på grund av att många svenska rederier historiskt sett blivit uppköpta av utländska eller har gått i konkurs. Resultatet är att Sverige inte har något stort maritimt kluster, ur ett internationellt perspektiv och att detta gör det svårare att starta och/eller driva ett rederi i och med avsaknaden av relaterade företag. Svenska rederier saknar även ett internationellt synsätt gällande driften av företaget.

    Denna uppsats syftar till att undersöka strömningarna i diskursen kring hur den svenska staten bör organisera sitt anti-diskrimineringsarbete. Teoretiska utgångspunkter och använda teorier är makt, diskriminering, grupp, diskursteori, intersektionalitet och författarnas eget begrepp för att benämna motståndarna till intersektionalitet; särsektionalitet. Metoden bygger på den anglosaxiska diskursteorin genom en identifikation av tre teman byggda på teorierna. Uppsatsen tar avstamp i SOU 2006:22 En sammanhållen diskrimineringslagstiftning Slutbetänkande av Diskrimineringskommittén och låter sju huvudaktörer komma till tals. Genom dessa aktörer identifieras två huvuddiskurser; en delvis intersektionell diskurs som är för en sammanslagning och en särsektionell diskurs som är mot en sammanslagning. Uppsatsen slutsats är att förståelsen för intersektionalitet bland berörda aktörer är väldigt låg och att en sammanslagning av ombudsmännen i dagsläget därmed inte skulle uppfylla det intersektionella syftet flera aktörer verkar förespråka.

    Abstract [en]

    During the fall of 2007 we have carried out an investigative work in a workplace connected to politics and an elected political assembly. Our investigation started with a survey being sent out to all employees. The results of this survey allowed us to formulate the precise aim of the study: to investigate how gender equality work can continue and also evolve in a workplace that seems to already have an established gender equality work. As a part of fulfilling our aim we asked the question how the informal gender equality may appear and whether it can be related to the equal opportunities and diversity plan of the workplace? Throughout the investigation we used a gender theory perspective and applied theories concerning gender coding, informal networks, gender segregation and resistance against equality. Apart from the survey, qualitative interviews and field observation were used. We found that the equal opportunity and diversity plan had a relatively low status, which might be connected to the fact that it tended to be placed outside the overall gender equality discussion. This could be a result of workers already perceiving the workplace as “gender equal”. One reason for this could be that the equal opportunities and diversity plan is not adequately focusing on the gender equal related problems that are described as mostly informal. Examples of informal gender equality problems are: informal networks, division of labor based on gender and the differences in status thereof. Another example is the imbalance between the sexes considering verbal communication in public arenas. Despite the fact that the workplace already has an established gender equality work there is still work to be done. Gender equality is an ongoing process and we find that the workplace has a good chance to face these above-mentioned ongoing challenges.

    En rad empiriska resultat har på senare tid påvisat en brist på nya, små och snabbt växande företag i Sverige. Av alla företag som startas och som existerar är det bara en liten andel som ens försöker att växa och en ännu mindre andel som kommer att växa överhuvudtaget. Den absoluta majoriteten av företag växer inte alls och detta är normaltillståndet för ett litet, ungt och ägarlett företag. Flera studier har visat att en stor andel småföretagare inte har någon önskan att expandera verksamheten ytterligare om det är möjligt att bibehålla den nuvarande storleken. Trots att detta faktum uppmärksammats sedan länge tar man i den mesta forskningen inte hänsyn till småföretagarnas tillväxtvilja, vilket är ett skäl till att kunskapen om småföretags tillväxt är begränsad.

    Intentionen med den här uppsatsen har varit att undersöka hur vanligt det är att småföretagare inte vill låta sina företag växa, varför dessa småföretagare inte vill låta sitt företag växa och om deras företag har några andra gemensamma drag. Studien har avgränsats till att bara undersöka treåriga småföretag. För att besvara studiens syfte användes kvantitativ metod med två kvantitativa undersökningar som underlag.

    Studien visar att andelen småföretagare som inte vill låta sina företag växa tycks variera över tiden, men ligger mellan 20 och 53 procent. Vi har även kunnat konstatera att majoriteten småföretagare som har en negativ inställning till tillväxt ser ”konkurrens”, ”svag efterfrågan”, ”dålig lönsamhet”, ”myndighetsregler, tillståndskrav och dylikt”, ”begränsad tillgång till lån”, ”begränsad tillgång till externt ägarkapital” och ”begränsad tillgång till lämplig arbetskraft” som hinder för tillväxt. Studien visar även att det finns statistiskt säkerställda samband mellan tillväxtvilja och bland annat småföretagets branschtillhörighet, omsättning, antal anställda och småföretagarens ålder.

    Abstract [en]

    Democracy promotion is a key objective in both US and EU foreign development policy. The study attempts to provide a better understanding of both actors democracy promotion in Afghanistan. The US and the EU are perceived to have different approaches regarding democracy promotion. Therefor the study examines if US used top-down and EU bottom-up approaches respective coercive and persuasive methods. Approaches used by actors are examined in the study regarding democracy promotion in the case of Afghanistan. It is a case study with qualitative text analysis and the theories used are top-down and bottom up channels of democracy, and persuasive and stick methods. The survey has looked at the both actors’ commitment in Afghanistan during period of 2001-2014. The result shows that the US and EU have more similarities than differences in the case of Afghanistan and actors have combined both top-down and bottom-approaches in promotion of democracy and focused on cooperation and partnership.

    Abstract [en]

    Afghanistan a country affected by decades of war and invasions has been subject of democratization and state-building of foreign donors post-2001. Despite the efforts of international community for improvements of state institutions, the country is and has been located at the bottom corruption indexes for many years. This essay tries to understand and explain why Afghanistan has been at the bottom line of corruption despite external actor’s vast democracy aid and building of effective state institutions. The case study of Afghanistan with qualitative method and descriptive text analysis examine causes of corruption in Afghanistan. The materials consist of both statistical data in terms of surveys and scientific literature to provide explanations of corruption in Afghanistan. The analytical framework of the study is based on previous research where formal institutions with focus on political system and informal institutions with focus on clientelism, patronage and neopatrimonialism, are used to explain the empirical data. The findings are that corruption is endemic in Afghanistan, occurring at all sectors of the government and the main reason is the defective political structure along with patronage and clientelistic networks and a state that rest on neo-patrimonialism.

    Digital and mobile channels has dramatically changed the retailing environment. New technologies allow companies to integrate information between different channels, in order to create a seamless and personal shopping experience for its customers. This is termed omni-channel retail strategy. In previous research it is discussed that this is the only way for retail companies to survive in the new retail environment. Previous research has focused on customer attitudes and values ​​but not on their actual behaviour. Thus, more research is required on how customers combine different channels during their buying process and how they experience the interaction.

    The purpose of the thesis is to create an understanding of how the omni-channel customer experiences its interaction with retailing channels. The goal is for companies to be able to use this study to better understand their customers experiences, and thereby improve their omni-channel strategy. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, a theoretical model, S-O-U, has been designed based on the classical Stimulus-Organism-Response model, which  often is used to describe consumer behaviour. The theoretical model has been used as a basis for the study's implementation and analysis.

    The study has a qualitative research strategy, and the data has been collected through focus groups. The collected data has been analysed based on the theoretical framework of the study, and the result shows that the customer uses different channels during its buying process to maximize their exchange. Furthermore, it has been found that the customer has different needs during the phases of the buying process. At the beginning of the buying process the customer is primarily driven by utilitarian values, while at the end of the buying process it is rather driven by hedonic values. The selection of channel depends on how well the channel can meet the customer's needs. Although the customer is driven by different values during the buying process, the result has clearly shown that both utilitarian and hedonic values ​​are necessary for the customer to have a positive experience of the interaction with different channels.

    Den här kandidatuppsatsens syfte är att undersöka hur det amerikanska presidentvalet 2012 gestaltades i Dagens Nyheter, Svenska Dagbladet, Aftonbladet och Expressen. För att göra detta har totalt 18 nyhetsdygn, uppdelade på två perioder, undersökts i de olika papperstidningarna. Kandidatuppsatsen är dessutom en uppföljning på två tidigare kandidatuppsatser som gjorts på Södertörns högskola om presidentvalet 2004 och 2008.

    Den teoretiska utgångspunkten för studien är framing theory, eller gestaltningsteorin som den kallas för på svenska. Gestaltningsteorin är en ledande teori när det kommer till den journalistiska bevakningen av politik. Några av de frågeställningar som besvaras i uppsatsen är vilka gestaltningsformer som var dominerande i de olika tidningarna, vilka aktörer som syntes mest, och hur resultatet har förändrats över tid i jämförelse med de två tidigare kandidatuppsatserna. För att komma fram till detta har en kvantitativ innehållsanalys valts som arbetsmetod.

    Resultatet i undersökningen visar att den gestaltningsform som fått mest plats är spel, som handlar om det politiska spelet och vem som vinner och förlorar, på bekostnad av sak, som tar upp sakfrågor och de politiska aktörernas åsikter i dessa frågor. I jämförelse med de tidigare kandidatuppsatserna visade det sig att det framför allt varit en drastisk sänkning av sakgestaltad journalistik jämfört med valet 2004, men att det ändå ökat lite på nytt sedan valet 2008. Studien kom även fram till att det var Barack Obama som fick absolut störst plats på nyhetssidorna och jämfört med utmanaren Mitt Romney förekom han i vissa fall dubbelt så mycket.
