History of Insolvency and Bankruptcy: from an International Perspective2008Collection (editor) (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

A well-functioning economy requires a well-functioning bankruptcy system. However, our knowledge of insolvency and bankruptcy is remarkably limited. This anthology brings together new international research from a wide range of academic disciplines – law, business administration, economics, history and economic history – and there is a correspondingly broad range of themes in the volume.

One theme running through the book involves institutional change in the systems that have been created to deal with insolvency. How have they affected creditors and debtors? How have they affected the economy? And how have older regulations been adapted to the demands of new economic systems and organizational innovations?

Another theme involves how lawmakers and people in general have explained the causes of insolvency and how they have viewed insolvents. In classical antiquity, insolvency was regarded as equal to theft from the creditor. That remained the dominant view for many centuries, and insolvents were subjected to harsh treatment. Beginning in the 19th century, there has been a process of redefinition, and bankruptcies are no longer regarded as a consequence of moral shortcomings but simply as economic failures.

A new decomposition of Tobin’s q2008In: PROCEEDINGS of the IABE-2008 Stockholm- Summer Conference: Stockholm, Sweden June 6-8, 2008 / [ed] Cheick Wagué, Detelin Elenkov, 2008, p. 238-230Conference paper (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

The Tobin’s q of a firm is the firm’s market value divided by the replacement cost. Ideally the q therefore should be higher than 1. The actual profitability can be measured as the annual profit divided by the firm’s replacement cost. This will be denoted as E/C. The stock market’s expectations regarding the firm’s profitability can be measured as the P/E ratio, i.e. the price of the stock divided by the annual profit. If these two ratios are multiplied, we get the ratio P/C, which is identical to Tobin’s q. This indicates a simple way of analyzing the impact of the two mentioned aspects of the q. Our conclusion is that the decomposition of the firm’s Tobin’s q gives a good illustration of the impact of expectations and profitability on the q.

Robust and Flexible States: the Transnationalisation of Nordic Central Administration2004In: Zeitschrift für Staats- und Europawissenschaften, ISSN 1610-7780, Vol. 2, no 1, p. 32-55Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This article perceives the present development of Nordic administrative regimes as a process of transnationalisation, comparing the central administrations of Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden in adapting to the European Union. Based on a survey covering all units in ministries and central agencies in these four countries, observed patterns of adaptation are being interpreted as “translation” into national contexts. The Nordic administrative regimes are, thus, robust and flexible at the same time as increased integration into Europe generates considerable variations in administrative behaviour, while administrative institutions remain largely unchanged.

Svenska börsbolags redovisning av pensionsskulder enligt IAS 19: Finanskrisens påverkan pådiskonteringsräntan2012Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Butikskoncept "Den nya lilla svarta": Butikens nya och viktiga roll2011Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

This paper identifies differences in institutional contexts (legislation) between Sweden and the UK and their effects on technology transfer policies. It then proceeds to examine how such activities are organized by universities. Empirical evidence from surveys conducted with technology transfer managers at eight Swedish universities and eleven UK universities gathered in Sweden and the UK during 2004 is analyzed. It is argued that the historical developments of these systems depend on different institutional contexts, which influence the modes of organization. The UK technology transfer system is based on similar legislation to that of the US, with IPRs being granted to the universities. The Swedish system, however, grants IPRs to the individual researchers, though with some new features such as science parks and incubators suggesting a change towards greater agent (university) involvement in encouraging technology transfer. This change indicates a breakthrough for the "entrepreneurial university" in Sweden.
