Employer Branding: En kvalitativ studie om Employer Branding i praktiken - från ett arbetsgivarperspektiv2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

In the increasingly competitive labor market it is becoming important for organizations to attract and retain competent employees. There are constant demands and pressures that organizations should comply. Therefor organizations need to have employees with the right knowledge to maintain their competitive advantage. By working systematically with the working environment, organizations can create basic conditions to strengthen their Employer Branding. The concept of Employer Branding have gained a significant role during the past decade and has evolved to become a key strategic priority for organizations. What matters is to appear as the most attractive employer in the market in order to retain and attract the most qualified talent. The study aims to identify and analyze the processes involved in Employer Branding. The results of the study show signs that many organizations have similar processes within their Employer Branding. In the subsequent discussion, the researchers have structured a model that can explain the approach on Employer Branding, where the working environment and Talent Management plays an important role.

Konsten att gilla sin kropp: En studie om kvinnors förmåga att utveckla en positiv kroppsuppfattning2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

As women's perception of their own body focuses on devaluing it rather than responding

positively to it, current research on positive body image among women today is scarce.

Previous research on the topic has mostly examined a negative body image and the

relationship between media and the body. Considerable research for this study has been done

by Frisén (2014) and Christina Holmqvist Gattario (2013), their studies have discussed the

motives behind a positive body image, which has proven to be a focus on the body's function

rather than appearance. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to find out how young women

develop a positive body image. This study is qualitative in nature and consists of eight

interviews conducted among young women aged 20 to 26 years. The theoretical framework

selected for this essay is Roland Paulsens’ (2010) development of Pierre Bourdieus’

(1979/2010) theory of Physical capital and Fanny Ambjörnsons’ (2003) theory of Making of

femininity. The results of this study show that relationships with a boyfriend or family, have

played a crucial role for the perception of a positive body image.

Utbildning och Ekonomisk tillväxt: - En empirisk tvärsnittsanalys av sambandet mellan utbildning och ekonomisk tillväxt inom OECD2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

The Bonus-Malus system: Will it be a cost-effective and fair policy for emission reductions from road traffic in Sweden?2019Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

As emissions of greenhouse gases has become one of our times most urgent issues, the policies implemented by governments in effort to reduce them are many and varied. In Sweden, a feebate system for vehicles was implemented in mid 2018. This paper attempts to answer the question whether or not the bonus-side (a subsidy for electric vehicles) of the policy will reduce emissions in a cost-efficient and fair way. The questions in answered by using material available to those who made the decision, and by looking at previous research and data. Mathematical examples of the cost, through the cost of the policy, of reduction is compared to EU ETS to evaluate cost-efficiency. The fairness aspect is reviewed by studying regional data. The conclusions are that the policy is neither cost-efficient nor is it free from interregional equity concerns.

Vägen till omnikanal: En studie om hur företag inom detaljhandeln arbetar för att nå en enhetlig upplevelse mellan de fysiska och digitala kanalerna2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Major changes in retailing in the recent years have changed how both companies work and how consumers behave as a result. The digitalization of the society has resulted in consumers who now are more connected and buy through more channels than they have before. Companies now have to offer a seamless shopping experience for their consumers - which is called omnichannel. This means that the consumer should be able to communicate with the company whenever, wherever and however it wants and requires an integration of all of the company’s channels. Companies that previously have worked with multiple channels as separated are now in the need of developing and improving their existing business models in order to make this possible.

The aim of this study is to create an understanding of which factors that are particularly important for companies in retail to take into account in developing their current business models in order to offer a unified experience between their physical and digital channels.

This study is based on a qualitative research method where five semistructured interviews have been conducted with companies that somehow work with omnichannel in retail. The conclusion shows that there are three factors of particular importance to consider when developing the companies business models. These three factors have been identified as implementation of technology in the physical environment, a stronger relationship to the customer and a need to organize in a new way.

Innovative framework for self-service kiosks: Integrating customer value knowledge2019In: Journal of Innovation & Knowledge, ISSN 2444-569X, Vol. 4, no 4, p. 262-268Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This study reveals different types of self-service kiosk customer value and synthesizes the self-service kiosk customer value framework, which includes four value groups and three types of customer value elements. The study also reveals gaps which stem from the inconsistency and fragmented nature of previous research on customer value in self-service kiosks. Based on the review of relevant literature and analysis of the systematically selected articles, the findings provide a basis for future investigations into service science and support manager decision making during the stages of consideration, implementation, and improvement of self-service kiosk networks. This study provides a comprehensive inventory of self-service kiosk customer value and its elements.

Vägen in i en redaktion för specialmaterial: En kvantitativ enkätundersökning samt kvalitativa intervjuer med yrkesverksamma journalister på specialinriktade tidningar2014Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

How does Foreign direct investment affect economic growth in the OECD countries?: A panel data analysis for the period 1996 and 2010 on FDI and economic growth2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Foreign direct investment (FDI) has since Dunning in the academic literature, by international organisations and countries been viewed as an important precursor to determine the level of economic growth. FDI is suggested to have a positive effect on long-run economic growth in the host country. Previous studies show evidence that the positive effect of FDI on economic growth should not be taken for granted. The extent to which FDI promotes economic growth is largely based on complementary factors which include among others human capital, education, infrastructure, health, population and a technology gap. This essay investigates and estimates the effect of FDI and human capital on economic growth in 28 OECD countries over the period of 1996 to 2010. Three regression were conducted. Our results show over the period studied a positive effect of FDI on economic growth, the result are not statistically significant in all regressions. Population is significant in all regressions but has a mixed effect on economic growth. Human capital proxied as secondary education attainment shows a mixed effect on economic growth and is not significant in all regressions. For the remaining independent variables (see table 7), the results show that Life expectancy and Government expenditure have a significant effect on economic growth. However, Trade is not statistically significant in the regressions.

Alcohol consumption, smoking and overweight as a burden for health care services utilization: a cross-sectional study in Estonia2013In: BMC Public Health, ISSN 1471-2458, E-ISSN 1471-2458, Vol. 13, article id 772Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Background: Alcohol consumption, smoking and weight problems are common risk factors for different health problems. We examine how these risk factors are associated with the use of health care services.

Methods: Data for 6500 individuals in the 25-64 age group came from three cross-sectional postal surveys conducted in 2004, 2006, and 2008 in Estonia. The effect of alcohol consumption, smoking and weight problems on the use of primary and specialist care services, hospitalizations and ambulance calls was analysed separately for men and women by using binary logistic regression.

Results: Overweight and/or obesity were strongly related to the use of primary care and out-patient specialist services for both genders, and to hospitalizations and ambulance calls for women. Current smoking was related to ambulance calls for both genders, whereas smoking in the past was related to the use of primary care and specialist services among men and to hospitalizations among women. Beer drinking was negatively associated with all types of health care services and similar   association was found between wine drinking and hospitalizations. Wine drinking was positively related to specialist visits. The frequent drinking of strong alcohol led to an increased risk for ambulance calls. Drinking light alcoholic drinks was positively associated with all types of health care services (except ambulance calls) among men and with the use of specialist services among women.

Conclusions: Overweight and smoking had the largest impact on health care utilization in Estonia. Considering the high prevalence of these behavioural risk factors, health policies should prioritize preventive programs that promote healthy lifestyles in order to decrease the disease burden and to reduce health care costs.

Gasattacken i Ghouta: En undersökning av nyhetsrapporteringen i sex svenska dagstidningar2013Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The aim of the study is to investigate various aspects of child poverty related to the work at youth centers. The purpose of the study is also to investigate experiences of the area in which the youth center is located. In order to investigate the purpose and questions of the study, six individual interviews have been conducted with the staff at a youth center located in a suburb in Stockholm city. The empirical material has been analyzed based on theories of class and consumer society. The study answers three questions with the first one describing the staff’s view of the area in which the youth center is located, as well as what effects these descriptions may have on their clientele. The remaining issues deals with the social consequences of child poverty which the staff identify and work counteracting. The study's conclusions show that the relative child poverty can adversely affect the social life of youths. It can cause difficulties in the maintaining of social relationships with peers and create feelings such as shame, fear and exclusion. This is explained by the demands placed on individuals to achieve a desirable class and consumer level. The study also showsthat the area’s character has an impact on the clientele. Furthermore, the study concludes that the youth center is working actively against the social consequences via inclusion, health and care.

Är influencers trovärdiga?: En kvalitativ studie om konsumenter upplever trovärdighet i influencer marketing2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Background: The development of social media has generated new communication and marketing strategies. Influencers is a phenomenon that has developed with social media and has become increasingly important for marketing strategies for companies. Influencers have a stronger credibility and impact on consumers then companies, which has led to more companies taking advantage of influencers on social media. YouTube is a growing social media platform that allows companies to expose and market themselves through an influencer.

Purpose and research question: The study will clarify factors that may be of importance to the credibility of an influencers marketing and business collaborations. The purpose of this essay is to gain an understanding if consumers experience credibility of influencer marketing, which results in the following research questions:

    • Do consumers experience credibility in influencers marketing and business collaborations?

    • What factors may be of importance to the credibility of an influencers marketing and business collaborations?

Method: The study applies a qualitative approach consisting ten individual semistructured interviews with consumers who are 16 to 24 years old and take part of influencers on YouTube. The interview guide for the semistructured interviews consists of 14 questions divided into three themes. The material that was obtained during the interviews has been compiled and analyzed using the chosen theories, which is communication, e-WoM, influencer marketing as a marketing strategy, influencers as opinion leaders and trust.

Results and conclusion: The results show that all respondents thinks that influencer marketing is credible. The respondents also feel that the credibility of influencer marketing is affected by the trust to an influencer and that the trust and credibility to an influencer can be affected depending on various factors.

Makteliternas konflikt på den journalistiska arenan: En text- och innehållsanalys av rapporteringen och debatten kring barnläkarfallet i Dagens Nyheter och Aftonbladet2012Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Reconnecting European Political Parties with European Union Citizens2018Report (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Democracy involves popular control over decision-making, and political equality among those exercising that control. In parliamentary democracies, day-to-day control is delegated to elected politicians, who organize themselves in political parties. Globally, political parties have become an important interface between government and the people.

Since their establishment, European political parties have enhanced their role(s) within the polity of the European Union. Within the context of multiple challenges to democracy worldwide, and in view of the 2019 European Parliament elections, European political parties are increasingly called upon to represent EU citizens in their work, and ensure an effective connection with people.

This Discussion Paper takes a comprehensive approach to understanding the role(s) of European political parties within the polity of the EU. It focuses on how European political parties can (re)connect with EU citizens, and emphasizes the regulatory framework in which European political parties operate. It also provides insights into European political parties’ linkage with national political parties, and outreach in relation to EU political actors and citizens. It includes a set of recommendations to advance the broadening, deepening and diversification of avenues and tools for European political parties to connect with citizens.

[ed] Thomas Poguntke, Martin Morlok, Heike Merten, Baden-Baden: Nomos Verlagsgesellschaft, 2013, p. 175-Chapter in book (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Political parties play a central role in the political process of the EU. However, this still means mainly national parties while European parties are relatively weak. The Euro crisis has highlighted the need for a truly democratic connection between European citizens and the European governance process. Arguably, stronger European political parties should play a crucial role here. This volume brings together experts on party research and European law who explore the possibilities and limitations of a stronger European party government.

Summitry of Political Parties at European Level: The Case of the PES Leaders’ Conference2013In: In the Name of Political Union: Europarties on the Rise / [ed] Ernst Stetter, Karl Duffek & Ania Skrzypek, Brussels: FEPS - Foundation for European Progressive Studies , 2013, p. 62-76Chapter in book (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Europarties regularly organise summit meetings of party and government leaders prior to the European Council. So far only specific cases have been studied, with a focus on policy impact with regard to European Council meetings. By contrast, this article investigates Europarty summits – particularly the PES Leaders’ Conferences – empirically and systematically through a comparison across time and cases. On the one hand the focus lies on the organisation of and participation in pre-European Council meetings. On the other hand the article also explores the reasons why senior politicians from various political parties (do not) attend these summits. This article shows that Europarty summits (PES Leaders’ Conferences) have been increasingly institutionalised, that there is significant variation both within and across cases as far as participation is concerned, and that they serve different functions: elite networking, intra-party decision-making, soft policy coordination, bilateral contacts and media performance.

Educational inequalities in diabetes mortality across Europe in the 2000s: the interaction with gender2015In: International Journal of Public Health, ISSN 1661-8556, E-ISSN 1661-8564, Vol. 60, no 4, p. 401-410Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Objectives: To evaluate educational inequalities in diabetes mortality in Europe in the 2000s, and to assess whether these inequalities differ between genders. Methods: Data were obtained from mortality registries covering 14 European countries. To determine educational inequalities in diabetes mortality, age-standardised mortality rates, mortality rate ratios, and slope and relative indices of inequality were calculated. To assess whether the association between education and diabetes mortality differs between genders, diabetes mortality was regressed on gender, educational rank and ‘gender × educational rank’. Results: An inverse association between education and diabetes mortality exists in both genders across Europe. Absolute educational inequalities are generally larger among men than women; relative inequalities are generally more pronounced among women, the relative index of inequality being 2.8 (95 % CI 2.0–3.9) in men versus 4.8 (95 % CI 3.2–7.2) in women. Gender inequalities in diabetes mortality are more marked in the highest than the lowest educated. Conclusions: Education and diabetes mortality are inversely related in Europe in the 2000s. This association differs by gender, indicating the need to take the socioeconomic and gender dimension into account when developing public health policies. © 2015 The Author(s)

En kvalitativ studie om spelmissbrukets orsaker och konsekvenser2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study is to study social workers' experiences of communicating with children within the frame of child protection work. This includes the key factors that social workers experience in professional communication with children, how the conversations are designed and implemented, as well as the obstacles and opportunities that may arise in communication with children. The study is based on a qualitative approach, as the purpose of the study is to investigate the social worker's own experience and experiences of communication with children ´s. The empirical material of the study has been acquired through six semi structured interviews with qualified social worker in a children and family. The result shows that there are key aspects that play an important role in professional communication with children, one aspect was the importance of the circumstances and the environment of the conversation. The study shows that the social secretary uses different methods and tools in the implementation of child talks. The result identifies obstacles and opportunities in communication with children, an obstacle raised by social workers was situations where the child did not want to participate and an opportunity is a good conversation environment. Furthermore, the results of the study are discussed based on previous research and theoretical reference framework, which largely confirms what the social worker emphasized for the outcome of the study.

Missbrukares motivation till förändring: En kunskapsöversikt2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this paper was to investigate people’s motivations for making the decision to stop doing drugs or drinking alcohol and seek treatment for their substance abuse and/or alcohol abuse. The purpose was also to investigate how they manage to maintain the changes after they’ve received treatment. This was done through a literature review of previous research from the last fifteen years. A total of nine articles was chosen and the results of these articles has been analyzed through the theory called self-determination theory by Richard Ryan and Edward L. Deci. The results show complex processes where many factors are contributing to people’s motivation to change and maintain the change. Themes created in the analysis are named external regulation (sub-themes: legal system, had enough), internalized regulation (sub-themes: identity, health, occupation/accommodation), relatedness and autonomy. The main conclusions of this study are that it is an internalization of external motivations that enable people to make a change. There are some general factors found in all the studies that affect their motivations. However, common factors at an overall level can have different meanings at an individual level. The different factors weigh differently for different people and the meaning can also change during different parts of the process.

    Abstract [en]

This is a case study that explores the ways in which implemented university reforms have affected employees in the higher educational sector. Previous research within the research field has mainly focused on policy related consequences of the reforms. This is why a study that brings attention to the ways the reforms have affected employees is sorely needed.

The aim with the study is to examine whether there is a discrepancy between formal changes and the ways the employees experience them. The study is based on interviews with 8 lecturers from two universities and the material is analyzed mainly through sociological neo-institutional theories, such as Richard Scott’s theory of the three pillars within an informal institution and Helmke and Levintskys theory of the relationship between formal and informal institutions.

The results show that there is a discrepancy between the formal changes and the ways employees perceive them. Furthermore the results also show that the employees are not fully satisfied with the outcomes of the changes.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to gain a deeper understanding of what preschool educators think about gender work and how they work with gender in preschool. The aim is also to contribute to a broader understanding of the educators way of promoting gender equality in preschool. The study is based on a qualitative method were eight preschool educators were interviewed. Previous research has also highlighted gender, which has also been our central research area. The theory is based on West and Zimmerman's “Doing Gender” theory and Connell's theory "About Gender". The results of the study show different ways of working with gender and the importance of gender work in preschool. Gender work at preschool was evident through conversations with the children, language usage and preschool materials. The importance of gender work was expressed through the educators' norm-critical approach and their approach to non-gender-aware colleagues. The final discussion shows a link between previous research and our results, but also how a gender perspective in the work with the children benefits society as a whole.

    Abstract [en]

This study aimed to explore how mothers, with daughters, experienced the transmission between the two according to opinions about their bodies and appearance. The study also explored the possibility of influencing this transmission according to how the mother decided to talk and behave with regard to their bodies and appearance. The results of previous research showed that the mother's attitude to their own bodies in relation to diet and exercise influenced their daughters' eating behaviors. The theoretical bases for the study were Bowlby’s attachment theory, Mead’s the generalized and significant other, Bourdieu’s hexis and Chodorow’s the reproduction of mothering. Five interviews were conducted with mothers of daughters, ranging in ages from 35-45. All interviews were recorded and transcribed. The transcribed material was analyzed thematically. The results showed that mothers with daughters experience a transmission of the thoughts and feelings about the body. This awareness generated strategies to prevent negative thoughts and feelings surrounding appearance and body image for daughters.

Four Dimensions of Criticism Against Gender-Fair Language2020In: Sex Roles, ISSN 0360-0025, E-ISSN 1573-2762Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The gender-neutral third-person pronoun singular hen was recently introduced in Swedish as a complement to she (hon) and he (han). The initiative to add hen initially received strong criticism. In the present study, we analyzed 208 arguments from 168 participants with critical attitudes toward hen. We used Blaubergs’ (1980) and Parks and Roberton’s (1998) taxonomies of critical arguments against past gender-fair language reforms in English in the 1970s and 1990s as a basis for coding the arguments. A majority of arguments (80.7%) could be coded into existing categories, indicating that criticisms of gender-fair language initiatives are similar across different times and cultural contexts. Two categories of arguments did not fit existing categories (19.3%): gender-neutral pronouns are distracting in communication and gender information is important in communication. Furthermore, we established four overarching dimensions that capture assumptions and beliefs underlying gender-fair language criticism: (a) Defending the Linguistic Status Quo (39.4%), (b) Sexism and Cisgenderism (27.4%), (c) Diminishing the Issue and Its Proponents (26.9%), and (d) Distractor In Communication (6.3%). These dimensions of criticisms should be considered and addressed in different ways when implementing gender-fair language.

Using Absorptive Capacity and Knowledge Management: A Case Study of Swedish Housing Cooperatives' Knowledge Promoting Activities2013Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

This master thesis analyses the housing cooperative´s capability to manageknowledge in order to improve its performances and create innovation. It is based on the analysis of elite interviews concerning the latest ten years of two Swedish housing cooperatives (bostadsrättsförenigar), which are Brf Grantorpand Brf Kullen that, because of their almost identical properties, made acomparison possible. Absorptive Capacity, which refers to the organization´s ability to identify, assimilate and apply knowledge in its specific context and Knowledge Management, which refers to the organization´s knowledge management activities, provided the basis for the theoretical framework. The empirical data show that, within the organizations, the main sources of knowledge are the Board members: when internal expertise knowledge is present then innovation takes place. Lack of policies in recruiting Board members means that innovation coming from within the organizations is always fortuitous, and depends on the individuals´ previous expertise knowledge. Even if the two years mandate constitutes a constrain in investing in knowledge development, it has been revealed that providing the Board members with a general knowledge in the housing cooperatives´ all-day activities constitutes a solid precondition to capture new opportunities: Brf Kullen acts in a more proactive way and actively identifies opportunities in the environment. Whilst Brf Grantorp does suffer the lack of basic knowledge and acts in a more passive way, waiting for someone else bringing in from the outside. However, both the organizations suffer the lack of explicit knowledge management policies. This is very noticeable when it comes to codification and storage: what is provided is essentially of tacit nature, and blanks out over and over again because it still remains in the members´ heads and it leaves when they leave the Board. Hence, both the organizations´ ability to exploit and transfer knowledge suffers lack of efficiency. Furthermore, even if they offer both formal and informal manners in order to share ideas between Board members, the activities are subject to each Board member´s commitment and time.

CSR och svensk elitidrott: en studie av de allsvenska fotbollsklubbarnas sociala verksamhet2015Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to identify and compare the Swedish elite football clubs CSR work by investigating their economic, environmental and social efforts.

Method: The paper has been completed with the help of a document study and two complementary interviews.

Theoretical perspective: Corporate Social Performance Theory, Shareholder Value Theory, Stakeholder Theory and the Triple Bottom Line Theory form the theoretical framework.

Empirical result & Analyses: All clubs were engaged in some form of social and economic activities that can be considered to be CSR-related. Examples of social activities that the football clubs carry out is to visit the children's hospital, providing homework assistance for children, give lectures in schools, organize spontaneous football in disadvantaged areas, helping young people to get in touch with potential employers, visit prisons, invite refugees to football games and help people with disabilities into working life. Only two clubs (Helsingborgs IF and BK Häcken) are engaged in environmentally friendly activities. Only two clubs (Helsingborgs IF and BK Häcken) engaged in environmentally friendly activities. These activities are to improve waste management at the football stadium and clean sweat to clean drinking water.

Conclusions: There are major differences in the extent of CSR work performed by the clubs. Four clubs (AIK, Djurgårdens IF, IFK Göteborg and Halmstads BK) have their own service for CSR managers. In addition to these four, five clubs (IF Elfsborg, Helsingborgs IF, BK Häcken, Malmö FF and GIF Sundsvall) have named CSR projects. These nine clubs can be considered to be in the forefront regarding CSR issues compared to the rest of the clubs.

Illusionen om frihet: Det nya arbetslivet och dess fängslande egenskaper2012Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this paper is to explore how different aspects of working life affect the individual. Our starting point in this paper is that we are critical of jobs with high autonomy that is becoming increasingly common. To assist us, we have a lot of previous research as well as critical theory and Foucault’s theory about power and surveillance that guides us through the research process. The selection is based on previous statistics produced by the ESS, which consists of a collaboration between 24 European countries. The essay test different aspects of paid work and its affect on work-life balance. The results show that the higher the degree of autonomy the individual has in his/her work, the less dissatisfied he/she is with time spent between work and leisure. A higher degree of autonomy does in fact lead to the individual worrying about work-related problems in his/her leisure time. Our conclusion is that there are good reasons to pay attention to what this increasingly common tendency can affect the individual.

Motiverade och engagerade medarbetare: En studie på ett stort industriföretag2013Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Cultural Capital in the Economic Field: A Study of Relationships in an Art Market2018In: Philosophy of Management, ISSN 1740-3812, E-ISSN 2052-9597, Vol. 17, no 2, p. 169-185Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

In this study of an economic field and its relationships to a cultural field, we apply Pierre Bourdieu’s central concepts of economic capital, cultural capital, symbolic capital and field, and thus follow in a tradition that at the outset was considered to be post-structuralism, but which by Bourdieu later has been brought into the realm of realism. We have mapped relationships between the actors and thus the field structures that these relationships entail. The fields in which a segment of an art world is operating is represented in multi-dimensional figures which illustrate relationships and bonds between the different categories of organizations. Some of the business actors we have studied are engaging in cultural activities with a great deal of autonomy, others are connected to the cultural field in less active ways. In participating in the cultural field they are in different ways and to different extents accumulating symbolic capital including prestige and honor. The method we have applied is multiple correspondence analysis which was frequently used by Bourdieu.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Digitizaliation charactarizes todays society and a new paragdim is a fact. There are considerable changes within the financial market where innovative FinTech-startups more and more take over the industry. This, due to that the traditional institutions cannot meet the costumers demands. The FinTech-startups are essential for the society and drives the innovation forward in order to fulfill the costumers requirements. However, these start-ups face difficulties with scaling-up which makes it hard for them to survive on the market. Financial funds and regulations are the main challanges they need to overcome. The purpose with this thesis is to examine how FinTech-startups work in order to scale-up their business and how they face challenges as financing and regulation. Theories used in this thesis are: FinTechs ecosystem, Startups life cycle and Technological innovation. A qualitative method is used with semistructured interviews with people from six different FinTech-startups based in Stockholm. The result of the studie shows that the FinTech-startups possibility to scale up mostly depends on financial funds. The companies experience challenges in finding investors and are placed in a vicious circle. In addition, conditions required have a major impact on the abilities to scale-up their business.

Prostitution: ett samhällsproblem2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Cognitive time as a service price determinant: Hidden dynamics and price collapse2019In: Journal of Business Research, ISSN 0148-2963, E-ISSN 1873-7978Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

A novel service price equation is advanced to explain how prices in the services market depend on service workers’ cognitive time in relation to the actual clock time (physical time) that is contracted for a service. Cognitive time affects service revenues, costs, the targeted service profit, and budgeted service time. The equation shows how the cognitive time of service workers produces a hidden price-lever effect, in which the service price behavior becomes non-linear. A minor difference between the cognitive time and the physical time of a given service generates a significant change in the price level required to realize a targeted service profit. If the workload of a service worker is increased to a certain level, there is a potential service price collapse, implying that the service provider cannot reach the budgeted profit. This collapse condition further advances the emerging literature on behavioral pricing of services.

Agonism or antagonism? Divide in the Ukrainian media community in the times of crisis2018Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Ukrainian media community since 2013 is undergoing a painful process of continuously adjusting to and counteracting the circumstances of conflict, with external and internal propaganda, economic pressure being a consequence of the more general crisis, and guidelines coming from the state institutions, such as the Ministry of Information Policy (MIP) (e.g. Bolin, Jordan & Ståhlberg 2016, Pantti 2016, Nygren & Hök 2016). Nygren et al. (2016), based on content analysis and interviews with journalists, conclude that one of the main challenges for the Ukrainian journalists today is a conflict between the ideal of neutrality in coverage and favoring of “patriotic journalism” in practice. According to Ukrainian scholars, there are today three groups of journalists: patriotism-charged, who give up standards for the sake of fighting propaganda; supporters of universal standards; and a mixed group (Dutsyk 2017).

In order to highlight the role of professional journalism organizations in this divide, this paper focuses on a specific case: project “Two countries – one profession” initiated and supported by the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media. Being based on the dialogue between Ukrainian and Russian professional journalism organizations around professional standards and safety of journalists, the project is perceived as contradictory and provocative by a part of the Ukrainian media community who suggest that it is “non-patriotic” and “anti-Ukrainian”.

The paper is based on analysis of observations of meetings between the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine and the Russian Union of Journalists, interviews with representatives of these and other media organizations and experts in Ukraine, focus groups with the journalists involved in the project, and negative and positive reactions to this project by the Ukrainian media community. It uses Hanitzsch’s model of deconstruction of journalism culture (Hanitzsch 2007, Nygren et al 2016) and Mouffe’s (2013, p.7) conceptualization of agonistic vs. antagonistic struggle.

Conflict as a point of no return: Immigrant and internally displaced journalists in Ukraine2019In: European Journal of Cultural Studies, ISSN 1367-5494, E-ISSN 1460-3551Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The Ukrainian Euromaidan protests in 2013, alongside the Brexit vote and the so-called ‘refugee crisis’, have strongly changed the imaginary of Europe. Apart from ideological shifts and geopolitical changes, the situation in Ukraine has led to a geographic relocation and displacement of media producers and audiences alike. Yet, in the Ukrainian context and beyond, little is known about dislocated journalists in conflict situations. This article addresses the specific experiences of immigrant and internally displaced journalists, their imagined audiences and the overarching construction of post-revolutionary Ukraine as an imagined community. The argument draws empirically from the dislocatory experiences and relocatory trajectories of two groups: immigrant journalists, who moved to Ukraine from Russia, and journalists who migrated internally – to Kyiv and other government-controlled Ukrainian regions from Crimea and non-government-controlled areas of Donbas. For immigrant and internally displaced journalists, the search for new identities and positions is strongly related to their imagination of the audiences. The journalists notice a simultaneous fragmentation and unification of the audiences driven by both top-down and down-up intentions of post-revolutionary nation building. They hope to contribute to turning the fragmented communities into a media nation that will perceive them as ‘us’.

Crisis and journalism culture transformation: The case of Ukraine2017In: Nordmedia conference 2017: 23rd Nordic Conference on Media and Communication Research Tampere, 17–19 August 2017, Abstracts, Division 2, Journalism, 2017Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Journalism culture is described by scholars as “one of the resources journalists draw upon to coordinate their activities as reporters, photographers, and editors” (Zelizer 2005, p. 204). Importantly, journalism cultures should be analyzed not only in connection to the contexts, but also in and as processes (Voronova 2014, p. 221). While most journalism cultures in the world face similar challenges, such as commercialization and digitalization, some of them are challenged by more radical challenges, such as war conflicts. Ukrainian journalism culture since 2013 is undergoing a painful process of continuously adjusting to and counteracting the circumstances of conflict, with external and internal propaganda (e.g. coming from the so-called “people’s republics” of Donetsk and Luhansk), economic pressure being a consequence of the more general crisis, and guidelines coming from the state institutions, such as the Ministry of Information Policy (MIP) (e.g.

This paper takes this discussion further and suggests to look at how the professional journalism organizations in Ukraine reflect upon this conflict, which journalists themselves define as a split between journalists and “Glory-to-Ukraine-journalists” (Sklyarevskaya 2016, October 20th). How does the participation of Ukrainian journalism organizations in the discussion of objectivity vs. patriotism look like on different levels – international, regional, national and local? Is there a possibility to retain a national culture of journalism in the situation of crisis, or does it inevitably end up in splitting to many journalism cultures that have their own rules, beliefs and ideals?

Using Hanitzsch’s model of deconstruction of journalism culture (Hanitzsch 2007, Nygren et al 2016), and focusing specifically on the dimension of epistemological beliefs, this paper analyzes a specific case: project ”Two countries – one profession” initiated and supported by the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media. The project consists of regular round tables where senior representatives from Ukrainian and Russian professional journalism organizations meet to discuss ways to improve professional standards and safety of journalists, as well as collaborative projects between young journalists from the two countries. The project is perceived as contradictory and provocative by a part of the Ukrainian media community (e.g. Rudenko 2016, December 15th). The paper is based on analysis of observations of meetings between the National Union of

Journalists of Ukraine and the Russian Union of Journalists, interviews with representatives of these and other media organizations and experts in Ukraine, focus groups with the young journalists involved in the project, and negative and positive reactions to this project by the Ukrainian media community.

Gender politics of the ‘war of narratives’: Russian TV-news in the times of conflict in Ukraine2017In: Catalan Journal of Communication & Cultural Studies, ISSN 1757-1898, Vol. 9, no 2, p. 217-235Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This article focuses on the gender politics of the news broadcast on the Russian state-controlled TV channels – Channel One (Pervyj kanal), Russia-1 (Rossiya-1), Russia-24 (Rossiya-24), NTV and RT (formerly Russia Today) – from January to September 2015, a period when the TV news closely followed the conflict in Ukraine and the growing tensions between Russia and Europe. The study shows that the news on the state-controlled TV channels interpret the state politics in only one possible way – ascribing the most traditional and essentialist characteristics to the country, prioritizing male actors and military activities and suggesting no alternatives to ‘(re)masculinization’ of the image of Russia in the situation of the conflict on the territory of another state, despite the alleged disengagement of the country in it. The article concludes that the state-controlled TV channels use essentialist gendering as a part of nation-branding and nation-building strategies, with an aim to construct the gendered and intersectionalized ideology of the ‘Russian world’ that would target both internal and external audiences and go beyond the borders of the Russian Federation.

    Abstract [en]

Since 2013, scholars have been discussing events happening in Ukraine from the perspective of the “war of narratives” (Khaldarova and Pantti 2016). In this war, information has become one of the main weapons (Hoskins and O’Loughlin 2010), and fight for the publics has crossed the borders of the ordinary economic and political struggles. Previous research has mainly focused on the attempts of the Russian mainstream state-controlled media and other actors (e.g. trolls on social media) to influence the Russian-speaking audiences in Ukraine, Russia and elsewhere by spreading pro-Kremlin propaganda (see Pantti 2016). Less attention has been given to the Ukrainian media community and the internal processes in it in the period of crisis (Bolin, Jordan & Ståhlberg 2016). Being a part of the research project ”From nation branding to information war”, this paper focuses on the visions of the publics by the Ukrainian media community today. How do representatives of the media community imagine and perceive their audiences? What are the changes that have occurred along with the territorial changes – loss of Crimea to Russia and establishment of selfproclaimed ”people’s republics” in the East of the country? And which language do media producers choose today to speak to their audiences? Through the prism of “imagined audiences” (e.g. Litt and Hargitai 2016, boyd 2008) and “imagined communities” (Anderson 2006), this paper discusses several aspects of the changes in the visions of the audiences by the Ukrainian media community. First, it focuses on the visions of the audiences by the journalists who due to the crisis had to move geographically and, thus, work for a different audience today. As such, it takes up the cases of journalists who moved from Crimea and the socalled LPR and DPR to Kyiv or other Ukrainian regions. Another case is journalists from Russia who moved to Ukraine for ideological reasons. Second, the paper discusses the reactions of the media community to the need for reaching out to the audiences in Crimea and so-called DPR/LPR, the technological and ideological challenges of this communication. Third, it focuses on a serious challenge and change concerning the language, in which the audiences are addressed. Due to new legislative proposals and, according to some media experts, economic reasons, Ukrainian language is becoming more and more dominant both in broadcast and printed media. Yet, simultaneously Ukraine is one of successful producers of transnational entertainment products in Russian language (e.g. popular travel show “Oryol i Reshka” by TeenSpirit Production which is broadcast in Ukraine, Russia and Kazakhstan).

Previous research has mainly focused on the attempts of the Russian mainstream state-controlled media to influence the Russian-speaking audiences in Ukraine, Russia and elsewhere by spreading pro-Kremlin propaganda (see Pantti 2016). Less attention has been given to the Ukrainian media community and the internal processes in it in the period of crisis (Bolin, Jordan & Ståhlberg 2016). Being a part of the research project ”From nation branding to information war”, this paper focuses on a very particular group of the representatives of the Ukrainian media community – Russian journalists who moved to Ukraine and work for Ukrainian audiences. This paper applies the theoretical prism of “imagined audiences” (e.g. Litt and Hargitai 2016, boyd 2008) and “imagined communities” (Anderson 2006). The analysis is based on semi-structured interviews with seven journalists conducted in 2017. What are the motivations behind their choice of the new geographic location and place of work? What are the challenges that they face adjusting to the new journalism culture and how do they see their role in the “war of narratives”? How do they imagine and perceive their audiences? And how do they relate to the language issue, as Ukrainian language is becoming more and more dominant both in broadcast and printed media?

[Ukrainian media organizations and journalists on challenges of information war]2017In: Творчество, профессия, индустрия [Creativity, profession, industry]: Материалы Международной научно-практической конференции "Журналистика-2016" [Materials of International scientific-practical conference "Journalism-2016"] / [ed] Elena Vartanova, Yasen Zassoursky, Moscow: Faculty of Journalism, Moscow State University, MediaMir , 2017, p. 249-250Conference paper (Refereed)
