Temporal and generational impact on identity, home(land) and politics of belonging among the Kurdish diaspora2014In: Nordic Journal of Migration Research, ISSN 1799-649X, E-ISSN 1799-649X, Vol. 4, no 2, p. 73-81Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this article is to examine the experiences of two generations among the Kurdish diaspora in Sweden: those who migrated as adults and those who were born and/or raised in Sweden. The focus will be on issues of identity, home(land) and politics of belonging with regard to generational and temporal aspects. We will argue that there are significant differences among the older and younger generations with regard to their experiences that demand different theoretical and analytical conceptualisations.

Valutariskhantering: Jämförelse mellan stora och små svenska företag2006Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Magister), 10 points / 15 hpStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Background: With the removal of audit requirement for companies in Sweden from the first of november 2010, a lot of companies has chosen not to keep the audit requirement. So far 57 percent of the small companies has chosen to keep the audit, in spite of that they don´t need to which led us to the problem statement: Which are the factors that affect a small limited company to choose to keep the audit, in spite that now there is a possibility to choose not to use audit anymore?

Purpose: The purpose of the essay is to examine why small limited companies choose to keep the audit, in spite that now there is a possibility to choose not to use audit?

Method: This research founds itself in a qualitative study with a deductive research approach. We have been studying secondary data in books and articles and preformed 29 phone interviews with small ltd company owners in Sweden. The selection consisted of 14 companies with credit debts and 15 companies without credit debts. In both categories the companies were selected at random.

Results: The study has shown that there are a variety of reasons why small business owners in Sweden choose to keep the audit. It turned out that most small limited companies use audit primarily for its own sake and interest, but also to avoid a tax audit. It was also found that the creditors had a great impact on small companies’ decisions on audit.

Insynshandeln och överavkastningen på den svenska aktiemarknaden: En eventstudie som undersöker om ett Vd-aktieköp i det egna bolaget genererar överavkastning2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

This paper investigates the relationship between insider trading and positive abnormal return. More specifically, whether CEO share purchases generates a positive abnormal return. In order to investigate this relationship, this study is based on event study methods. An event study is a statistical method which calculates the impact of an event on another variable under a specific time period, and in this paper, the impact of CEO share purchases on the stock price during 11 days. Furthermore, the result from this study is insufficient and cannot be used to generalize the concrete conclusions. It has been shown that the probability of positive abnormal return varies depending on what period of time is analyzed. A positive abnormal return did not occur when analyzing the whole period (11 days). However, the results were somewhat significant when we analyzed and compared specific periods with each other. Thus, we find it hard to justify whether CEO share purchases within the own company generates a positive abnormal return.

The Failure of Democracy in Iraq2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The motivation of the bachelor thesis is to provide an understanding of democracy in Iraq from 2003 until present. After the fall of Saddam’s regime, there have been general elections but there is still an unstable democracy in Iraq. What are the reasons behind the failure of democracy in Iraq? Of course, there are many reasons behind this but my choice is to focus on three specific ones. How do these three variables that I have chosen, affect the possibility of democracy in Iraq? These two questions will be answered in this bachelor thesis, using Path Dependence Theory and Dahl’s Polyarchy Model and its Criteria that help to analyze and answer the research questions. Iraq has many major problems but the three I have focused on are ethnic and religious divides between Shia and Sunni, the violent environment and the presence of terrorist groups.

Brand Equity inom B2B startups: en kvalitativ studie om hur B2B startups arbetar med brand equity för att skapa konkurrensfördelar2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Over the past few decades, branding has become a priority for companies. A brand helps companies to differentiate themselves from their competitors, which creates competitive advantages. Most of the research on brands has primarily focused on consumer marketing. However, it has been found that the brand is just as important in business to business (B2B) companies, and that it also plays a big role when it comes to the survival av newly established company like for example startups.

Startups differ from established companies through their innovative ideas and problem solving. However, they faces challenges because of lack of capital, time and resources. As the competition in the market grows, startups need to create competitive advantages by working hard with their brand strategies to achieve strong brand equity. This study aims to highlight how B2B startups work with brand equity in order to achieve competitive advantages.

The study has used a qualitative research strategy where the primary data has been collected through semi-structured interviews with four different startups based in Stockholm.

The study shows that startups need to first position themselves in the market and then work on brand building. The result also shows that B2B startups are aware of the brand's importance and that they in fact work with brand equity to achieve competitive advantages. However, the strategies with the steps in the CBBE model differs depending on the industry and type of corporate activity.

Är den traditionella arbetstiden för alla?: - En fenomenografisk studie om hur förkortad arbetstid påverkar organisationer inom den privata och offentliga sektorn2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Introduction: The issue of working time reduction has continued to be discussed in various contexts and has become a current social debate. Because of this, it was of interest to carry out research in the area by analyzing what effects a shortening of working time has on an activity from an economic perspective and also concerning productivity goals and result orientation.

Aim: The purpose of this study is to analyze how shortening of working hours affects the organizations' finances, productivity goals and results in the private sector.

Method: This research is focused on a phenomenografic method with its base in qualitative interviews.

Result: The result section is presented in the following main themes: Arguments for the introduction of shortened working day; Organizational effects and disadvantages of the introduction of shorter working days.

Conclusion: The difference between the private and public sector is in focus and the motivation for why an abbreviated working day has been introduced differs between them. While the private sector focuses on efficiency and increased profitability, the public sector focuses on well-being and thus productivity. One of the most important findings identified in this study is that the primary argument for introducing six hours working day, which also reflected the new organization after the change work, was to create a better balance between work and leisure.

Doing development right; the Rights-based approach: A comparative case study on NGO accountability2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Over the past decades, a convergence between civil and political human rights non governmental organisations (NGOs) and development NGOs have occurred. The fusion of the two disciplines have led to the construction of so called ‘Rights-Based approaches’ (RBA). One principal concept for RBA’s is the question of accountability. Functional accountability is no longer seen as sufficient and more focus on social accountability have advanced. In previous research NGOs are repeatedly questioned for their level of accountability. This comparative qualitative case study therefore aim to examine how three Swedish based NGOs perceive accountability, with the purpose to contribute to the academic discussion of NGO accountability.

By using grounded theory and selective coding, this study will contribute with new empirical data to the ongoing development of RBA theory. Empirical data is collected through interviews, NGOs official strategies documents and analysed in relation to the empirically grounded theory. The main findings in this comparative case study is that organisations different backgrounds and values influence how they perceive RBA and accountability, and which methods are used to reconcile with accountability claims. The collected empirical data concludes perceptions of accountability mostly focuses on four interconnected key principles; power relations, democracy, transparency and empowerment.

Hen!
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to investigate how preschool employees perceive a usage of the gender-neutral pronoun hen within Swedish preschools. Our questions are: ”How do the preschool employees in this study perceive the possibility of using hen as a gender-neutral pronoun within the preschool environment?” and ”Do they think that there are any fields of usage of hen that can be applied in this environment?”

This study was carried out with a qualitative method of investigation and 11 qualitative research interviews with preschool employees from five different preschools. The recorded empirical information was documented with a dictaphone whereupon the data was transcribed and analyzed.

The study revealed how the informants perceived gender and sex in the preschool environment. We interpreted this perception as a reflection of the attitudes to the word hen among the informants. The results showed to what extent the preschool employees used pronouns like hon/han. We interpreted that the perspective among the informants when discussing gender and gender identity was biological and heteronormative. The informants claimed that they did not make any difference between girls and boys and they felt that they were working from an individual perspective. However, on the contrary, we proved the opposite.

Our conclusion is that the informants found it difficult to see the range of application of the gender-neutral pronoun.

Dansa fritt: En kvalitativ studie om barns dansupplevelser på förskolan2016Independent thesis Basic level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The main purpose of this study is to examine how preschool children experience dance. Starting from the child's experiences and perceptions, I also want to investigate in which manner the child's creativity and learning are promoted through dancing. A qualitative approach was chosen to the study and the information was gathered through observations and open interviews with participating children. In order to understand and interpret children's experiences, a hermeneutic and phenomenological stance was taken. Data were analysed using Vygotsky's, Winnicott´s and May´s theory of play and creativity together with Dewey’s theory of experience and learning as points of view. The results indicate that dance created a forum and an opportunity for children to act out and express their creativity and learning. The children's curiosity was awakened by body movement, which allowed them to develop their creative and practical skills in an expressive, aesthetic manner. Dance enabled the children to establish a sensitive relationship and intensive interaction with each other and the surrounding world.

Värdering till verkligt värde - enklare eller svårare aktievärdering?2009Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of the thesis has been to investigate whether there is a link between trade liberalism and economic growth in the Asian countries. Previous research has pointed out that correlation exists between these variables, but there have also been other researchers who criticized such a relationship. We discovered that economic growth studies had previously been conducted where countries in Asia were included. This motivated us to carry out our study as our research hopefully helps to replenish existing knowledge gap. In the study, we have used cross-sectional regression analysis for 30 Asian countries where data were collected for 1990-2000. Our dependent variable in our regression is average GDP per capita, which also defines growth. We have used two independent variables as main variables, trade volume and economic freedom index. Our analysis shows that the majority of the variables in the study have a positive significant relation to economic growth.

Keywords: economic growth, trade liberalism, trade, GDP / capita, EFI, direct investment, import, export.

Livsmedelsdistributörer och Sociala Medier: Hur livsmedelsdistributörer i Sverige använder, utvärderar och legitimerar sitt användande av sociala medier som marknadsföringskanal2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Background: The usage of social media in Sweden have increased steadily in recent years. These communication channels have transformed the communication between customers and companies from a passive monologue to a dialogue in which the customers gets involved in order to create new, and maintain already existing relationships which ultimately creates long-term profitability. Although, this phenomenon is not exclusive for B2C but seems to in-clude B2B as well.

Purpose: This study aim to gain a deeper understanding around social media as a marketing channel for food distributors in Sweden. For this reason, the study also want to sort out how the companies use, evaluate and legitimize these marketing activities.

Method: This study is based on five interviews with three B2C-companies and two B2B-companies within food distribution in Sweden.

Result and analysis: The result of this study show that the companies aim to be represented in the social mediums where they can find their customers. The most used social mediums was revealed to be Facebook and Instagram and that the sought values of marketing through social media was to distribute digital material, brand-building, create new and maintain present relations as well as directing customers towards the company’s homepage. In this study the similarities was found to exceed the differences between the B2C-companies and the B2B-companies. However, the differences that was highlighted in this study was that B2B-companis seems to be favored by a more earnest tonality and that the receiving parties of the communication in B2B are not as likely to further distribute the company’s message, nor do they move between communication-channels as “sprawling” as regular consumers.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The aim of the thesis is twofold: to explore the ways in which the transformation of the Swedish elementary school can be understood through Marxist theory; and, by ethnographic methods, understand the everyday lives of students and teachers in light of the transformation of the educational system. The ethnography has been conducted by observations and interviews during a total of six months at two different schools, Libera and Publica. While Libera is a charter school, owned by a private investment company, Publica is municipally administrated. The former is based in the central part of the city, while the latter is located in a more economically marginal and geographically peripheral area. At Libera, students plan their own schedules and work load and they also set their own goals. At Publica, the students are organized in a more conventional, meaning collective, structure. By discussing marketization, which includes private as well as public actors, scholars foreground the competition that exists between schools through the Swedish voucher-system as well as the transactional relationship that reshapes the relationship between students and teachers. To describe the market rationales by which the public schools must operate the already established concept of New Public Management has been used. However, still no terminology can be found to describe the private actors’ way of functioning. By returning to Marx’s concepts of formal and real subsumption, I offer new ways to conceptualize the shift in character of education and how privately-owned schools operate, meaning how surplus value is created in the everyday life of students and in their pedagogical relations. As my results show, more efficient and flexible ways to organize teaching and pedagogical practices have emerged as new scale logics are developed by private actors who are part of big investment companies. Due to the competition, both Libera and Publica adopt a strong market rationale in their organizational arrangements and pedagogical expectations. Besides conceptualizing schooling on an organizational level, I also seek to address the premises and effects of the learning situation for students in a milieu that is characterized by both flexible and standardized management. Despite the different characteristics of the schools, the market rationales, which dovetailed well with the result-based (state-arranged) management, tended to create alienating conditions for students and teachers in their daily work. Everyday school life was occupied with grade talks and very little time was given for pedagogical “detours”; the students were mostly trying to crack the code and the ones who could not manage the pace were systematically left behind (eliminated). In many cases, whether it was in more successful situations or during processes of (self)elimination, students were often left alone. The expectation of being self-propelled dominated the pedagogical relationship, which translated into the pressure of constant performance and little space to be “unskilled” or explorative. In a situation when school organizations are in competition with each other and are expected to present high numbers (in terms of grades and economic efficiency), the already motivated or skilled students appear as attractive and desirable. The results show how schooling continues to maintain, and in some ways accentuates, segregation and social reproduction.

Välfärdsmodellens omvandling det privata kapitalets utvidgning i den offentliga sektorn2018Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Overcoming the fear of commitment: Pre-electoral coalitions in Norway and Sweden2009In: Acta Politica, ISSN 0001-6810, E-ISSN 1741-1416, Vol. 44, p. 259-285Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

In this article, we examine the occurrence of pre-electoral coalitions (PECs). Recent research points to when and why they are likely to occur, but these explanations are pitched at aggregate level, and they are less satisfying when applied to our particular cases. Rather than institutional or party-system features, we concentrate on the parties themselves – a level of analysis that raises theoretical and methodological challenges, which we discuss. Empirically, we investigate two cases of PEC in 2005–2006. One involved three Norwegian left-of-centre parties, the other involved four Swedish right-of-centre parties; both marked major departures from established behavioural patterns. We suggest certain conditions that may be necessary for a PEC to be formed. In particular, we argue that ‘decisive’ parties must prioritize office at the moment of decision, and that this preference order may be induced by some sort of environmental or intra-party stimulus.

    Abstract [en]

This article examines the institutional arrangements between Social Democratic parties and trade unions in Denmark, Norway and Sweden. First, the authors show how these relations have weakened at a varying pace. Party–union ties are now quite distant in Denmark, but remain relatively close in Norway and, especially, Sweden. Second, the authors explore this variation using a simple model of political exchange. The finding is that the intensity of the relationship is correlated with the resources that each side can derive from the other, which in turn reflects national differences. Yet it is also clear that the degree of change is related to the formative phase of the institutional arrangement itself: the weaker the ties were from the beginning, the more easily they unravel in response to environmental changes.

    Abstract [en]

Swedish children are growing up in an increasingly physically inactive society, even though research shows the positive effects of physical activity (Wikland 2013, p. 40). Children spends most of their days in preschools, which means a great responsibility for preschools and its teachers as they affect children's opportunities for physical activity. The purpose of the study is to examine how preschool teachers perceive the work with children's physical activity indoors. In our study, we have assumed phenomenography, whose purpose is to describe people's different perceptions of phenomena (Alexandersson 1994, p. 112). To collect empirical data, we have conducted interviews with six teachers at three different preschools.

This study results and analysis showed that there are different perceptions of the teachers about the work with the children's physical activity indoors. The study showed that all teachers perceived that physical activity is important for children, but they expressed different views about the work on this. The overall perceptions were that they planned and enabled the movement activities indoors with different purposes or that they worked with physical activity when the children expressed a need for this. Another view was that children should not be physically active indoors, because this was something they could vent outdoors. The teachers perceived that there were several factors that influenced their work including knowledge, facilities, furnishings, noise, their own and colleagues' approach and preschool educational focus.

OS i Kina, oberoende idrott eller politisk propaganda?: A Study of the Chinese Regime’s Political involvement, in the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games2008Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 points / 15 hpStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The aim of this paper is to describe which view the Chinese government in connection with the Olympics wants to display for the natural world and analyze if this view coincide with China’s foreign-policy goals. A qualitative content analysis is used. By using the theory of rational choice and a model with three different political approaches I want to examine whether or not the foreign-policy goals of the Chinese regime comport with the view that displays in two major newspapers in China. Since the runoff voting in Moscow in 2001 for the 2008 Olympics the Chinese government has been able to act rational and to compose different strategies to use the Games in Beijing for political propaganda. The analysis show that the governing in China make use of domestic media to put across their political message and some of the most important foreign-policy goals also occur in articles that handle the Olympic Games of 2008.

    Abstract [en]

My experienced- and scientific based essay describes de communicative issues I experience with a specific couple of parents at my preschool. These issues are also applicable in a more general perspective regarding the communication between the preschool and the home. The reflection helps me to reach a deeper understanding of what communication is and the challenges that can arise when the preschool meets the home. Moreover, the reflection helps me to consider whether it is useful to see this from a power related perspective and what the preschool’s curriculum says about cooperation between the preschool and the home. I am trying to view the problematic issues from the parents’ point of view and thereby attend their position. My aim is to study the meaning of communication between pedagogues and parents in the preschool in order to be able to see the consequences that arise for the child when the communication fails. I also aim to illuminate the power relationship that takes place between parents and pedagogues.

    My question formulations are:

    • Does my dilemma regard power and who possesses the most power in the meeting at the preschool; the pedagogues or the parents?
    • What happens to the child when communication problems arise between pedagogues and parents?

My conclusion is that it is difficult to really know how another person experience a situation and it is a bit of a chance when one is to interpret. Furthermore, I find that situations of this sort rarely can be solved by stating that there is a right or a wrong. Human relationships consist of grey zones where the specific situation often decides how it is most appropriate to act.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to seek knowledge about care by interviewing preschool teachers regarding daily drop-offs. We have explored what this knowledge consists of, where it comes from and how they apply it in their profession at large. By using phenomenology as our theoretical approach, we seek the essence of their knowledge by including their whole lived experience. We also use Aristotle’s concept fronesis, to analyze our material. By doing this we aim to broaden standards of knowledge and professionality. Our results show that the essence of the preschool teachers´ knowledge in the situation of daily drop-offs, comes down to the their empathetic and responsive ability, since every child and situation requires a different approach, depending on the childs different needs. We discovered that this is a form of knowledge owning its’ own logic, based on ethics of care, which we see as our most important result. Our conclusion is therefore, that caring is a form of knowledge that is a part of the preschool teacher profession and should also be included as one. Pedagogy in Swedish preschools integrates an educational and caregiving practice and should also be based on scientific methods and evidence-based practices. It is important that the educational aswell as the caregiving element become subjects of scientific research.

A phenomenological interview study on preschool teachers approach to children´s conflicts

Our intention was to study six preschool teachers approach to child conflicts in preschool and the strategies they use to deal with conflicts. The aim of the study is to provide knowledge about how the values of the preschool teachers express themselves in the educational environment and how they relate to children's conflicts. The following two inquiries are examined in this study:

    • What strategies does the preschool teacher describe that she applies in different conflict management situations?
    • What values are expressed in the preschool teacher's strategies in conflict between children?

This study follows a quantitative method with a phenomenological research approach. It is based on material from interviews with six different preschool teachers who work in the preschool and preschool class. The theoretical starting point for the study is Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory, which proceeds from children learning by social interactions.

The result shows that preschool teachers use different strategies depending on the nature of the conflict. It furthermore shows that all preschool teachers perceive children as competent and they emphasise the importance of letting the children be a part of the conflict management. Their experience is that the environment plays a determinant part in children’s interactions. All preschool teachers had a view of children with the purpose of always acting in their best interests. All pointed out the important part the presence of a pedagogue has to get the conflict management to work.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to create an understanding of the phenomenon of reflection. In order to gain a deeper understanding of the concept, we chose to interview four preschool teachers. The preschool teachers met with colleagues in their pre-school area regularly during the autumn and spring terms 2014-2015, to develop their skills through reflection. We wanted to examine whether these meetings influenced their understanding of the concept of reflection, as well as their ability to reflect. We tried to get a hold of these two elements through the questions in our interview.

Our three most interesting findings in this study are. The preschool teachers in our study makes a fundamental theoretical difference between how you look at and define the reflection with children and how they look at peer learning. A distinction is difficult to justify theoretically. Our second interesting finding was the importance and the difficult task to keep the reflections away from mainly be about giving each other "tips and advice". Our last finding is the need of good leadership skills of the one who have the task to lead the reflection.

    Abstract [en]

Within today's society, social media has grown to become a more common thing than most. In Sweden, almost 83 % of the population use social media. With this marketing growth, a role that have become more common is the term ‘influencer’. Whereas an influencer is someone who inspires people in any sort of way by using social media platforms, such as Instagram. The marketing strategy that has evolved through influencers is called ‘influencers marketing’ and is a commonly used marketing strategy in today’s reality. However, the question that companies must ask themselves is - How will this affect consumers?

By studying how ‘influencer marketing’ affect consumers whom all follow influencers on Instagram - this study presents which factors have a more deciding role when it comes to being affected by influencer marketing. Whereof we have had several semi-qualitative interviews regarding questions such as; how trustworthy a person finds influencers and if influencer marketing affects a person's consumer behaviour.

The results of this study show that consumers feel a certain trust to influencers whereof this study presents 4 factors that affects an individual's ‘trust’. The result showed for example that a person value, genuity and personal connection to an influencer. The trust that an individual has towards influencers showed to have a direct connection to consumer behaviour.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to identify the motivational factors among Prison Officers working in a high security prison. To investigate this purpose, a key issue was formulated and answered with the help of three sub-questions regarding why Prison Officers choose to take employment in the prison service, if their motivation changes over time and which views they have towards the working environment from a motivation perspective. In order to collect data, six semi-structured interviews were carried out with Prison Officers in a high security prison. The results of these interview showed that motivation among Prison Officers changes over time. Initially it was the need to have an income, the possibility of future career opportunities as well as wanting to test new career paths that drove their motivation. Later, motivation shifted to it being their colleagues and the clients who contribute to their work motivation. The work environment also has an impact on Prison Officers’ motivation as safety at work it is an important factor in creating good cohesion. The study also shows that one reason for becoming a Prison Officer can be that it provides a springboard for future work opportunities. Also, work motivation is based on a balance and a combination of several factors.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of my study is to highlight how children at preschool are affected by adult’s awareness of norms and interpretations of masculinity and femininity. The essay shows examples of boys’ and girls´ expectations of each other and the preconceived notions of what boys and girls should or can do, and how we pedagogues relate to this matter. One example is about an encounter with a mother, where we have different opinions about her son´s wishes to be Lucia instead of Santa Claus. I had to reconsider my pre-understanding and I realize that we can create opportunities to receive and give, without preconceived notions of what is "right" or "wrong".

Main issues are: What is controlling our thoughts and actions and hence causes us to act stereotypically? How can we pedagogues give children the opportunity to establish their identity beyond taken for granted notions of gender? Is it possible to be a conscious and sensitive gender pedagogue all the time, and what does it mean?

My study is based on hermeneutics as a method. This means that I interpret and show various perspectives from my horizon of understanding. I look into different situations from other´s perspectives, theories and literature together with the experience I posses as a pedagogue. Related to this experience, the essay shows that pedagogues often believe that they meet and treat each child as individuals, and that the children are given the same opportunities and rights. I also study power theory based on the philosopher Michel Foucault´s works and I find that it is a difficult balance between the beliefs of pedagogues and some parents have.

I refer to the pre-revised curriculum that emphasizes that we must counteract traditional gender patterns and gender roles (Lpfö 98, revised 2010). But despite the wording of the curriculum, I find that we establish gender patterns and reproduce its many times stereotypical way of considering what is male or female. The essay also discusses ideas about how gender affects the various ways in which children are allowed to play and, in turn, affect how pedagogues relate to and challenge the children’s play and learning.

Konkursprognostisering: En tillämpning av fyra konkursmodeller2013Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of the article is to contribute with knowledge of pedagogical documentation with a particular focus on the importance of documentation from a democracy perspective. While there are many studies of pedagogical documentation, few studies explicit examine this practice from the perspective of children and guardians. Analyses, based on focus group data of children ́s and guardian ́s conversations from memories of the children ́s time spent in preschool in relation to educational documentation work, are presented. Pedagogical documentation practice is shown to contribute to the creation of a community of practice at the preschool, which in turn enabled democratic education.

Regularization as a tool for managing irregular immigration: An evaluation of the regularization of irregular immigrants in Spain through the labour market2008Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The objective of the thesis is to make a stakeholder evaluation of the regularization process that in 2005 gave the right to irregular immigrants in Spain to apply for a legal status. I want to portray how different groups at the labour market experienced the process and identify the factors that contributed to the result. I further want to study if regularization can be seen as an effectual measurement for managing irregular immigration. The methods are qualitative interviews and text analysis combined with evaluation method. The main theories are Venturini’s and Levinson’s suggestions for a successful regularization. Other prominent theories are Soysal’s theory about citizenship, Jordan’s and Düvell’s and Castles theories about irregular immigration. The result shows that the main argument for carrying out the process was to improve the situation at the labour market. The most prominent factors that affected the outcome were the social consensus preceding the process and the prerequisite of having a job contract. The regularization of irregular immigrants had an overall positive outcome but the stringent prerequisites for being regularized together with problems with sanctions of employers probably had a somewhat negative outcome on the result of the regularization.
