Nietzsches Dubbla Sanningsbegrepp: För ett tvetydigt sanningsbegrepp hos Friedrich Nietzsche2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

This thesis aims to investigate what Nietzsche says about the concept of truth in several of his works. The works of Nietzsche that will be object to this investigation are On Truth and Lies in a extramoral sense, The Gay Science as well as Beyond Good and Evil. In this thesis I argue, with support from Maudemarie Clark’s book Nietzsche on Truth and Philosophy, that Nietzsches idea of truth best coincides with the correspondence theory of truth. The thesis comes to the conclusion that Nietzsche’s use of the concept of truth varies between truth as illusion, and truth as something like “the object in itself”. The purpose of the thesis is not only to investigate Nietzsches conception of truth, but to formulate an understanding of Nietzsches concept of truth as something with double meaning. On the one hand truth in universality, as it exists as conceptuality. On the other, truth in particularity, as it exists independent of mankind. Finally, I will investigate if it is possible for the individual to fully reach, or atleast come close to, this second meaning of truth.

    Abstract [en]

Purpose: This dissertation aims to explore artistic representation investments by property developers. The report aims to analyse how property developers formulate their strategies and how they invest in artistic representation. In addition the report investigates which elements affect their decision to work with artistic representation. These are the research questions that formed the basis for the investigation.

Frame of reference: The study is done in the light of theories about how different values can be generated based on cultural expressions along with theories about strategies, investment and decision making.

Method: One municipality and three property developers with ongoing construction projects have been the object for this study. Data were collected through interviews and participation in seminars and through secondary data such as reports and policy documents.

Conclusion: The study concludes that there is a disagreement between how municipalities and property developers view art. The results show that the property developers do not use capital budgeting as funding for artistic creation. A common finding for all the companies is that they include the artistic interpretation in the overall budget estimate. It was also discovered that the developers themselves believe that they do not have a conscious strategy. However, in the survey, three common factors were identified that are crucial for whether the property developers include artistic representation in their construction projects: financing, the clients requests and the demands of the municipalities. Finally, the results also suggest that property developers do not take into account other values that art and culture can generate.

The new woman and the aesthetic opening: unlocking gender in twentieth-century texts2004Collection (editor) (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Is there such a thing as an aesthetic feminism? How has the poetics of gender changed since the beginning of the twentieth century? Starting with the Modern Breakthrough and the fin de siècle and ending with a discussion of contemporary literary feminism, this anthology attempts to redirect the study of the interrelation of aesthetics and gender by giving historical perspective to twentieth-century literary works. Its approach invites a de-centering of modernist aesthetics and a revision of the canon with its persistent cult of the male genius at the expense of the more dialogical model of women´s literature. By following the course of women´s and men´s literature throughout the period, gently unlocking the gridlock of gender and aesthtics in high modernism, it traces a forgotten dialogue between the sexes.

The New Woman should be understood as a figure connecting nineteenth-century discourses of sexuality and the feminist movement(s) in a discursive response. Her brave redefinition of the gender contract is an indispensable gateway to modern culture. The fin de siècle anticipated postmodernism themes such as unstable male-female identities, the importance of Eros, a queer fantasy of a neuter gender, and the narcissistic game of self-invention as a response to the feeling of loss of collective values.

This volume works across the east-west divide, discussing texts by Victoria Benedictsson, Lou Andreas-Salomé, Illa Christensen, Selma Lagerlöf, Henrik Ibsen, Knut Hamsun, Karen Blixen, L. Onerva, Elin Wägner, Ida Bäckman, Alexandra Kollontai, Colette, Djuna Barnes, Agnes von Krusenstjerna, Sigfried Siwertz, Karin Boye, Vicki Baum, Tora Dahl, Natasha Goerke, Natasha Tokarczuk, Henning Mankell adn Liza Marklund

The (Re-) Creation of Latvian Citizenship: Questioning Ethnic and Liberal Democracy2008Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 15 credits / 22,5 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

This thesis is foremost dealing with the process and the consequences of the restoration of the Latvian republic after 1991.

It was examined what liberal and ethnic democracy can tell about the assessment of citizenship in general and about the restoration of Latvia in particular. Further, it was analysed how the Latvian legislation defines the citizenry and if preference to a certain ethnic group is given. The change over time of the relevant legal documents was subject to this study as well.

It was evaluated, which impact the exclusive approach to citizenship (initially purely based on state-continuity) that in 1991 disfranchised 30% of the population, had for the rights of these people.

The method of ideational analysis was used to scrutinise the law texts.

In order to gain information on the effects for the population in question, the method of effect analysis was used. This was enriched with interviews conducted by the author on two occasions with governmental representatives, researchers and members of NGO´s in Riga 2008.

The legal documents here, encompass the Latvian Constitution (1922), the Resolution on Restoration (1991), the Law on Citizenship (1994, 1995, 1998) and the Law of the Republic of Latvia on the status of former USSR citizens who have neither the Latvian nor another state’s citizenship (1995). The literature read for the purpose of this study spans generally from 1992 to 2006.

The conclusion drawn here is that the strict application of the state-continuity thesis and the denying of state responsibility for the changes of population in 50 years time are inconsistent with liberal democracy. Rather this citizenship policy resembles features of an ethnic democracy.

The changes in the Law on Citizenship of 1995, where ethnic Latvians and Livs were given the possibility to come to Latvia and receive citizenship automatically (even if they were not citizens of interwar Latvia), while children born to non-citizen (all of them non-ethnic Latvians) after 1991, were not automatically conferred citizenship, made the preferential treatment for one ethnic group obvious.

Due to the fact that large parts of the minority population were disenfranchised, they were not able to contest important governmental decisions. As a result, laws directed against the interest of the minority population were introduction.

As a whole, a marginalisation of the minority population took place.

    Abstract [en]

In my essay I try to get a better understanding of those who in general words are called shy children. What does it really mean to be shy, is it a personality trait that is difficult to change, or is it a condition that needs to be processed to further development? Or could it perhaps be something that is hereditary and thus impossible to affect? What exactly does shyness mean in the preschool for the child and the teacher, and how can the teachers try to reach children who are not usually seen or heard. Is it at all something to worry about, and if so, what can you do to support them in their continued development. Through the use of different perspectives such as the socio-cultural and norm-critical, I try to see how various aspects influence the view on shyness. In this essay, I use my own knowledge and previous experiences in order to reflect on how my own, the preschool and society's view affects us in the daily approach.

    Abstract [en]

This article compares, thematically, two prominent but problematical twentiethcentury critics of nihilism: Martin Heidegger and Carl Schmitt. Both spoke of the spread of a global space, tied to tendencies towards the reduction of everything to a reserve of resources, a development both connected to a pursuit of intense but ultimately insignificant experiences. For Schmitt, nihilism stems from the disconnection of the global order from its European, Christian origins. For Heidegger, nihilism represents, rather, the culmination of a European, metaphysical tradition. Furthermore, while Schmitt appears to see a counterpoint to nihilism in the sacred sites of Christianity, representing the ultimate metaphysical exception of Christian revelation, Heidegger proposes a view of sacred sites as tied to the appearance of a god as something strange and enigmatic, which has often been reduced within Christian, theological thought. In conclusion, I situate the two critiques in relation to Karl Jasper's notion of an Axial Age and the developments of a contemporary global space. This way of situating the two critiques will show how Heidegger actively attempted to handle two fundamental developments which Schmitt sought to elude: the increasingly intense relativisation of Christianity in relation to other major religious traditions, and the relativisation of claims concerning religious revelations and theophanies in relation to the scientific and technological spatiality and temporality of the global space.

    Abstract [en]

The concept of ‘nihilism’ is ambiguous and has had and continues to be attached to several different usages. This special Focus primarily looks at the ways in which ‘nihilism’, in and following the works of Friedrich Nietzsche, has been understood as specifically tied to a crisis of European culture or civilisation, and has come to be politicised in conjunction with the National Socialist and Fascist movements in Germany and Italy during the twentieth century. Specifically, the individual articles deal with the connection between an understanding of nihilism and what it entails for the question concerning political responsibility. This introductory article presents this thematic, introduces the other contributions, and attempts to situate these debates on nihilism in the context of processes of secularisation. The article retrieves three major themes in relation to the critiques surveyed in this special Focus: nihilism as a crisis of beliefs and values, as an appropriation of religious elements into ideological grand narratives, and as the unshackling of an instrumental approach towards reality, and argues that all of them remain relevant to contemporary debates.

    Abstract [en]

Feminist initiative – an idea analysis.

On the fourth of April in the year 2005 Feministic initiative (Fi) was created, it was an main response to the slow changes in the Swedish society, which claimed to establish an equal society. Equality has become one of the major indicators of a contemporary democratic society. The Swedish government has long proclaimed to reach this goal, but even though Sweden currently lies in the front among the democratic societies, while you consider equality issues, especially between the sexes, there is still a lot that need to be done in the Swedish society. Feministic initiative began as an organization and established a political party and participated in the election during the year 2006, but failed to reach a place in the parliament. Recently Feministic initiative said that they will participate in the upcoming election in the year 2010.

It made me wonder which feministic ideals that Feministic initiative actually practices. Feminism is a broad ideology, and a reaction against the society that claims to be democratic but systematically oppresses women. This oppression created feminism; but there is different views of feminism, my main objective in this paper is to present a few different feministic directions. These are, radicalfeminism, marxistic feminism, liberalfeminism, socialistic feminism, post-modernfeminism and black (women’s) feminism. From these theories will I create a analyze frame and try to locate different kinds of feministic ideas within Feministic initiatives policy documents called F! for a feministic policy, election manifest and platform for Feministic initiative

Thus, the main focus in this paper to do an idea analyze and focus on Feministic initiative, do they really use the different ideas expressed within the different types of feminism that I consider in this paper in a equal manner? The conclusion is that Feministic initiative is tendentious, Feministic initiative uses ideas, perspectives and expressions that are typical for radicalfeminism more than they use ideas, perspectives and expressions from other types of feminism.
