Omnichannel - ett verktyg för tillitsskapande: En kvalitativ studie kring kopplingen mellan omnichannel och tillitsskapande2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Since internet was born digitalization has flourished and led to technological innovations that opened up new opportunities on the market. In the retail sector, the digitalization and development of mobile devices, tablets and social media have changed the traditional trade both online and in physical stores. In order to cope with the challenge of digitalization and to meet consumers' new expectations, more companies have begun offering customers a seamless customer experience between physical and digital stores, called omnichannel. Omnichannel represents a very favorable opportunity for companies to exploit synergies between channels to synchronize interactions with consumers across multiple channels. The purpose of this paper is to investigate perceptions of the link between omnichannel strategy and consumers trust. Since the purpose of the study is to increase understanding of perceptions about the connection between omnichannel strategy and consumer trust, we have chosen a qualitative research method. Our empirical evidence was collected through six interviews with experts in the field of omnichannel and people that have experience of omnichannel as a strategy. The result shows that respondents perceive that companies can use different channels to create trust, but different channels have different conditions. For example, it is harder to build trust through digital channels if they are not linked to a physical store. Omnichannel can therefore create synergies in which the company can benefit from each channel's trust-making features. However, respondents perceive that omnichannel is very difficult to organize and can create major problems for companies unable to handle this integration of the channels.

Det barbariska Norden: en kritisk innehållsanalys av hur asatron framställs i jämförelse med kristendomen i läromedel för religionskunskap2011Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 15 credits / 22,5 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to present a critical analysis of how certain themes of the Norse pagan religion are portrayed in ten selected textbooks used for Religious Science education in grades one through nine. The themes included in the analysis are; the description of the transition from the Norse Pagan religion to Christianity; Adam of Bremen’s portrayal of human sacrifice, and lastly Ibn Fadhlan’s characterization of widow burning. By using a critical knowledge text analysis, and applying a theoretical starting point that pedagogical material analyses and interprets events from a specific perspective; in this case from a Christian perspective, I have from the study concluded that the chapters covering the Norse pagan religion in these textbooks have a distinguished Christian bias seen as the norm. The themes analysed in this study all describe different phenomena in a similar way and make use of the same sources, even though these are often questioned. The Christian religion is delegated a prominent role whereas the Norse pagan religion is portrayed as it’s opposite, undeveloped and barbaric.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to investigate how six students at a Secondary School describes interaction patterns among teachers when students express in a way that the teacher perceives as racist and/or xenophobic, by presenting a qualitative interview study. The interviews were analyzed by two opposing models of value education: the traditional and the constructive model.

The results show that students divide teachers in different categories based on five qualities: 1) they listening, 2) they accept students' opinions, 3) they allow discussion, 4) they are knowledgeable and 5) they can express their own opinions.

These qualities are included in the value pedagogical model for deliberative conversations, whose strategies for interaction aim to create an understanding of different rules and values, thereby creating skills of rules by using a democratic approach. In contrast to this model, the rule-based moral education, in which the teacher uses his authority and refers to rules without giving an explanation for why they occurred, as strategies.

Tegnér i gymnasiet: En komparativ studie av Tegnérs utrymme i gymnasiala litteraturantologier samt läroplaner från 60-talet till våra dagar2012Independent thesis Basic level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to present a comparative analysis of seven literature anthologies for the Upper Secondary School, from 1968-2004, to investigate how much space Esaias Tegnér is getting and how many and which of his works that is presented in these anthologies.

The study is set against the hypothesis that Tegnér is getting a reduced space in the anthologies because of his connection to Romantic nationalism, which after World War II has been associated to the themes and ideology of the National Socialism. In view of this I have asked myself if Tegnér is getting a reduced space in the literature anthologies for the Upper Secondary School. My study shows that this is the case.

One can also see clear trends in a subjective approach towards the author. In the anthologies where Tegnér have had a strong prominent role, he is retaining his position even in later editions. Over the entire period of 1968-2004 he is getting a less prominent role, although he is generally presented as the greatest poet of his time.

I have also examined the discussion of Tegnér during that period to see if you can find any connection between the discussion about Tegnér and the change his work gets in the literature anthologies. The study also examines if the Upper Secondary School curriculum from 1965, 1994 and 2011, leaves any room to study the works of Tegnér in the literature teaching.

The first curriculum of the Upper Secondary School, highlighting Tegnér as a writer of particular importance and a part of the required literature reading. Later, less detailed curriculums, does not mention either authors or works. However, these curriculums can be interpreted in a way that Tegnér and his works still belongs to the literature teaching in Upper Secondary Schools.

“Se inte i backspegeln, vi har varken tid eller råd”: En kvalitativ studie om unga chefers perspektiv på jämställdhet2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

This study falls within the field of organization and management and aims to create a deeper understanding of the reproduction of inequality in organizations. The study also intends to discuss and problematize possible causes of reproduction of inequality within organizations. This is done through a deeper explanation of six young managers' perspective on gender equality.

The theoretical chapter focuses on the topics; leadership, organizational culture, gender and equality. The study of leadership in organizations is relevant to this study as managers may have a big impact on their organization's gender equality work. The result of this study show that perceptions about various characteristics related to sex still exists. The study also shows that young managers have a positive attitude towards gender equality work in organizations, though a relatively small awareness of the subject.

Figurines as multiple art: Studying the shape and forms of Neolithic Statuettes2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The focus of this paper is on Neolithic figurines and the type of plurality found in four statuettes.

We follow why three dimensional figurines are a part of many museum collections and yet documentation is often comparatively scarce compared to other fields of archaeology. How this is connected to figurine’s uncertain imagery and why their visual ambiguity raises questions about what is deemed ‘cultural and well formulated art’.

Scandinavian figurine character and plural imagery is compared with multirepresentational statuettes from other parts of the European continent.

The result of exploring Neolithic figurine’s art is with an aim to broaden insights into what the statuettes depict. This includes studying why ceramic moulded art is easier to understand, when each sculpture is allowed several interpretations.

Seeing them as pluralistic is a move that invites modernity to examine unexplored areas of what their combinations represented for the cultures that produced them.

The paper examines an artistic approach to figurines and asks if art can enable archaeologists to see three dimensional images as a definable form of expression that belongs to the Neolithic period’s accomplishments?

Berättelsen om Ann: etik i Stig Larssons roman Nyår2005Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [en]

The aim of this study is to examine if Kenneth, a character in the novel Nyår by Stig Larsson, takes his ethical responsibility for one of the characters that appears in one section of the book, Ann. Nyår has often been related to morality. This study shows that Levinas philosophy of ethics is a supplement to the discussion of morality. According to Levinas, a person that acts in a non-moral way still can act in a righteous ethical way. With this starting point, it is possible to be close to the text and to bring out new perspectives on the novel. Kenneth is a nihilist, but has got the possibility to take his ethical responsibility for Ann. The ethical responsibility for another person, according to Levinas, always comes first. Kenneth, like everybody else, is obligated to this responsibility.

Kiyoakis flyktcirkel. En precisering av Yukio Mishimas roman Vårsnö2006Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Magister), 20 points / 30 hpStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The reception and the study of the novel Spring Snow by Yukio Mishima has – as always with the novels of Yukio Mishima – focused on the writer himself according to his spectacular way of life and death. Opposite to the studies and the reception, this master thesis focuses on the novel itself by following two more or less hidden traces in the novel: the protagonist Kiyoaki and his attitude to responsibility and dreams. This examination deepens the novel, by showing how the mechanisms of its inherent complexity work. It has been made by freely applying Roland Barthes´ method “rewriting the text”.

Erfarenheter från Skatteverket efter den slopade revisionsplikten2014Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The aim of this paper is to investigate how teachers in Swedish schools abroad reason about their work developing the Swedish language as the students live in a non-Swedish speaking country although going to a Swedish school. Furthermore the study intends to examine the teachers' attitudes towards the impact the Swedish language has upon the school. Research questions:

    • What thoughts do the teachers signify in reference to the language development of the students?
    • How do the teachers reason about the role of the Swedish language in the school?

In order to answer these questions, qualitative measures has been used in terms of observations and interviews. The study is based upon a social constructivist perspective with the idea that reality is socially constructed. I am inspired by Vygotskijs theories regarding children's language development which presents a socio-cultural perspective.

The result shows that the Swedish language has a great influence in school and that the teachers' attitudes towards the Swedish language is of major importance in order to encourage the students' language development. Teachers and the principal highlight the emphasis of working with the Swedish language since the students live in a non-Swedish speaking country and therefore mainly come in contact with it in the school or at home. The teachers' work actively to develop the students language skills through reading Swedish literature, producing own texts and consistently speaking Swedish.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of my empirical study is to see if and how teachers meet the students needs of physical activities in the daily work in the classroom. I also want to explore how different teachers see the connection between the concepts: physical activity and learning. To fulfill the purpose, I have chosen to ask four questions that I will work on in my study.

    • How much and what type of physical activities do the students do in a typical day at school?
    • What happens with the students when they have had a moment of physical activities in the classroom?
    • Do the teachers see any connection between the physical activity and the pupils' ability to concentrate?
    • How do teachers look upon the relationship between physical activity and learning?

To get answers to my questions, I have observed and interviewed five teachers. I have compiled and analyzed the results. In my study, I have alternated between empiricism, literature and previous research. The research I have chosen to use is Torkel Klingberg and Ingegerd Ericson (see bibliography), it is about the connection between concentration, physical activity and learning. The results of my study show that there are many ways to work with motor skills exercises and physical activities in the classroom. The study also shows that all teachers do not want the students to move around while they are in the classroom; they rather see that the physical activities are done at the school break and in gymnastics.

    Abstract [en]

This paper investigates the understanding of the concept of justice. This study takes advantage of a phenomenographic research approach while also using questionnaire answers. The purpose of the thesis has been to explore young students understanding and experiences of “justice”. The data for the empirical part of the study has been gathered through questionnaires and the main information for the qualitative part of the study has been extracted from the results of interviewing students. The results show evidence that teachers in the study have not worked explicitly with the concept of justice. The results from the study shows that the primary education of “justice” happens through socialization.

    Abstract [en]

This study aims to examine if individuals feel that increased divorce rates impact their attitude towards long-term relationships. The empirical data was collected through semi-structured interviews with four young women who shared their thoughts and feelings about marriage, relationships and divorces. The study is based on theories about reflexive modernity and individualization (see Beck, Beck-Gernsheim and Giddens). The empirical data is also analyzed by Giddens’ theory of the pure relationship and his theory about the ontological security. The theory of socialization is also used along with Bourdieu’s concept of habitus.

The result of the study shows that individuals with divorced parents are aware of the increased divorce rates in society and that it affects their attitude to long-term relationships. This can be explained primarily by using the theory of socialization and the concept of habitus. The respondent in the study whose parents still lived together considered herself protected from the increased divorce rates and experienced therefore that this did not affect her attitude to long-term relationships. The more thorough analysis nevertheless shows that all respondents are affected by the increased divorce rates in society, even if the respondent with non-divorced parents was not aware of it herself. The increased individualism and modern societies reflexive nature can explain this. This result appeared even though the study in advance did not intend to distinguish between individuals who have been through a parental divorce and individuals who have not.

"Vi måste hänga med, det här är deras vardag": En studie om Internets frammarsch, om den digitala generationsklyftan i undervisningen2010Independent thesis Basic level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The aim of my study is to look at two specific schools and their work with Internet in the classroom and compare their work to what experts say about how you should educate. The study focuses on how teachers guide the students to be critical to the information they encounter on the internet. What do the experts say? How should the teachers work with Internet in the classroom? What do the teachers say about their work with Internet? What do the teachers say regarding children and the Internet?  To answer these questions I have interviewed two teachers from different schools, which had classes with children 6 to 8 years old. The schools are very different from each other concerning investment on Internet devices in the classroom. I have also interviewed two experts on the subject who are working for organisations concerned with children’s use of the Internet.

I have related my findings to older research, Marc Prensky’s terms Digital Natives and Digital Immigrant are frequently used in the study. I found that the work with and understanding of Internet depended on what generation the teacher belonged to. Older teachers are Digital Immigrants while the younger teachers are Digital Natives who have been brought up with digital media. According to Prensky and other experts it’s important that teachers learn to communicate in the style of their students, and give Internet a place in the classroom. Children are spending much time on the Internet and it’s important, according to the experts, to guide the children and learn them to be critical to the information they come across.

Kvinna och korrespondent: En intervjustudie med tolv kvinnliga utrikeskorrespondenter om hur de upplever sitt yrke2013Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Etablering av svenska företag i Förenade Arabemiraten: En multipel fallstudie2007Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 points / 15 hpStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Civil Society and Biopolitics in Contemporary Russia: The Case of Russian ‘Daddy-Schools’2014Conference paper (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

This paper will deal with civil society organizations active in the field of family policy and demographic issues in contemporary Russia, using Michel Foucault’s concepts of biopolitics and governmentality. More specifically, so called “daddy-schools” that have emerged in and around Saint Petersburg since 2008, are studied, using interviews and documents. A preliminary analysis shows that the organizations work as complements to the state but have also influenced policy, altered legislation and challenged established assumptions and the governmentality of the Russian state concerning parenthood, the “good” father and how to deal with the ongoing demographic crisis.

Civil Society Organizations in the EU: Being Ideological or Having an Impact?2014Conference paper (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Civil society organizations are discussed as actors who can reduce democratic deficits in global/regional governance institutions, not least the EU which is the focus of this paper. However, organizations with different aims and ideologies often come together in large meta-organizations to address EU-institutions. This paper studies how the identity and ideological acerbity of CSOs is affected by membership in heterogeneous meta-organizations through a case study of CONCORD Europe, active in the development cooperation field at the EU level. Theoretically, neo-institutional theory and research on meta-organizations is used. Empirically, documents and interviews with representatives of CONCORD and CONCORD’s membership are analyzed.

Managing expectations, demands and myths: Swedish study associations caught between civil society, the state and the market2013In: VOLUNTAS - International Journal of Voluntary and Nonprofit Organizations, ISSN 0957-8765, E-ISSN 1573-7888, Vol. 24, no 3, p. 537-558Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Several challenges, external and internal, to the identity and position of civil society organizations exist today. Organizations may be tempted or coerced into closer cooperation with the state. There are also incentives to become more market oriented. This article deals with such struggles in Swedish study associations and how these organizations attempt to gain legitimacy. The tradition of the organization is an important legitimating aspect and so is efficiency. These two aspects can complement each other but may also collide. The article demonstrates how civil society organizations handle an influx of market logics and trends of professionalization when these clash with a civil society identity. The findings indicate that different isomorphic processes are at work. Cultural resources are used to handle conflicting myths, leading to varied discursive strategies and incidences of decoupling.

Myths and Traditions as Constraints or Resources?: Path Dependency and Decoupling Strategies among Civil Society Organizations2015In: Journal of Civil Society, ISSN 1744-8689, E-ISSN 1744-8697, Vol. 11, no 1, p. 19-38Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

History and traditions are important for many civil society organizations (CSOs). However, they have to mediate between their original mission and modern-day realities. This article argues that the concept of decoupling can enrich analyses of how organizations deal with path dependency. Hence, theoretically, the article discusses cross-fertilization between historical and organizational institutionalism. This is illustrated through a study of Swedish CSOs using survey data, interviews and documents. The Swedish popular movement tradition is argued to be a path that is not easily abandoned, and the results show how actors in CSOs find history to be both a resource and a constraint. Furthermore, different decoupling strategies, including both reversed and official decoupling, are used to balance between historical legacies and current challenges.

What should a Russian father be like?: Exploring fatherhood norms and identifying norm patterns among inhabitants of Saint Petersburg2018In: International Political Science Review, ISSN 0192-5121, E-ISSN 1460-373X, no 4, p. 487-502Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Based on data from a survey conducted in Saint Petersburg in 2013, this article sheds new light on attitudes towards fatherhood in contemporary Russia. We explore what norms are held concerning fatherhood, how these attitudes are related to age, sex, education and income as well as to ideal?typical models established in previous research on fatherhood from Western Europe and the US. Thus, the article also discusses what explanatory value established theoretical models have for the Russian context. Norms of the role of the father in the family are related to general norms of masculinity and, hence, are an important part of the study of politics and the political climate in a society. The results show that there are several fatherhood ideals present in contemporary Northwestern Russia: a traditional breadwinner model, an active fatherhood model as well as what we refer to as a marginalized fatherhood model. The latter has not been substantially identified in previous research, and may tentatively be identified as a legacy of the Soviet era.
