    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study was to explore how unaccompanied minors describe their experiences of family reunification, and what importance or implications it has for them. Furthermore, our aim was to find out how they experience the withdrawal of public social support after the arrival of their families. We interviewed three persons who were unaccompanied minors by the arrival to Sweden, and later reunified with their families in Sweden. The theoretical framework of this qualitative interview study is formed by Schütz’ phenomenological sociology and Berger and Luckmann’s theory of the social construction of reality. We complemented the theoretical framework with Boss’ theory of ambiguous loss and Greif’s theory of ambiguous reunification. The method for analysis used is Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). The main results shown in this study is that there seems to be an ambiguity in the family reunification experience. On one hand, the family reunification was of big importance to the participants. On the other hand, the time following the reunification was characterized by a great responsibility for the family. Finally, we discuss possible shortcomings in the way the public social support for families after family reunification is provided.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study has been to describe and analyse in which way court make a distinction between honour related violence and violence in other cases by using an text analysis together with an content analysis. Previous research shows that honour related violence have been a controversial concept, which have made it hard for the swedish society to get a hand of the background of the phenomenon. Some researcher describe honour related violence as a cultural related lifestyle, all though some researchers does not agree with this explanation. The result have been analysed through a feministic perspective on gender, definitions of ascendancy, the normalizations process of violence and through honour and shame. To create an understanding of how the gender norms can take place in different family structures, Al-Baldawis pyramid of patriarchal family structure have been used as an illustration of the differences in authority of power. The main result shows that men's violence against women have been over represented, categorized after violence in close relationships. It also shows that the court´s assessment often is objective, based on the circumstances of the case.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study is to illustrate partly how the definition of "honor-related violence" is used in the social welfare report and how "honors" are used in current Swedish research and in a central book. The paper examines the consequences for social security officers when "honor-related violence" is defined in a variety of ways while working to prevent the phenomenon. The empirical essay consists of different texts and research that focus on different definitions of "honors concept". Research on the issue of "honorary violence" also analyzes the work of the Social Security Officers. The method is qualitative text analysis, and the coding consists of questions that have been faced with the analysis of the material. Our authors have endeavored to have a factual and research approach in the work of this paper.Central findings in the study are that "honor-related violence" is described from cultural, historical, and intersectional perspectives. Some texts analyzed are based on cultural and historical starting points in the description of violence, and refer primarily to norms and values as a basis in society. Other research criticizes this approach and emphasizes that cultural aspects can lead to discrimination against certain groups. When "honor-related violence" is explained from a cross-sectional perspective, research takes place from different basic constructions into why violence occurs, and addresses class and gender as important prerequisites for describing "honor-related violence". The current Social Security Officer's perception of honor, then a discussion in the paper about the importance of assuming each case is unique and not drawing general conclusions to support the victim in the best possible way.

    Abstract [en]

Work-related violence is a growing problem. The aim of this study was to investigate the extent to which social workers are exposed to threats and physical violence in Sweden, and comparing exposure units. The study also investigated attitudes that exists about threats and / or physical violence within the social services, whether it is a normalized phenomenon in the social services and how this affects the reporting inclination of social workers. The survey is based on a survey of 139 social workers working within the social services.

The results showed that more than half of the respondents have been exposed to threats and / or physical violence and that threats were more common than physical violence. The results indicated that there is a relationship between which unit the social worker worked on and the extent they were subjected to threats and physical violence. There was a greater tolerance to threats than to physical violence, even though the study indicated there were negative consequences of threats. The lower frequency of reporting threats by social workers could be because of they have normalized the problem. The study highlights that normalization of threats needs to be addressed in order to prevent the problem.

Bedömningsstöd för familjehemsplacerade barns umgänge: En utvärdering ur socialarbetares perspektiv2018Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study has been to investigate the support and protection the Swedish government can offer victims of human trafficking for sexual purposes (HTSP). This has been accomplished through a textual analysis of selected governmental documents, which describe support and protection for victims of HTSP. A focal point of this study has been to analyse whether the procedures described in the documents, and also the intentions therein, bears resemblance to the empowerment-theory. This includes whether it adds to a process where the persons are empowered and receives more control over their own lives. The result of the study shows that the texts express intentions of long-term support. We view these intentions as bearing resemblance to the empowerment-theory. Also, the texts show intentions of offering support and protection unconditionally and based upon human rights. The support and protection described in the texts envelop both emergent and long-term support. All victims of HTSP, though, do not have access to the same support and protection since this is based on what sort of visa the person holds. It is demanded to be part of a court-process to receive a short-term visa in Sweden. Because of this, it might be discussed whether support and protection is given first and foremost to meet the needs of victims of HTSP, or with the goal of fighting crime.

Doing things together: Exploring meanings of different forms of sociality among autistic people in an autistic work space2019In: Alter;European Journal of Disability Research ;Journal Europeen de Recherche Sur le Handicap, ISSN 1875-0672, E-ISSN 1875-0680, Vol. 13, no 3, p. 168-178Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This paper explores different meanings of being social among autistic people who are employed at an autistic-separate workplace in Sweden. The analyses in this paper are based on data from fieldwork at an autistic workspace consisting of autistic people working with peer support directed at young autistic adults in Sweden. Two different forms of sociality, which take place in two different social environments, are highlighted: environments dominated by non-autistic people and those dominated by autistic people. Interest-based sociality includes the importance of having interest-based exchanges with one another, and having common interests and communication based on genuine interest in the topic being discussed. Socially based sociality is, rather, based on social group identification. The first is the dominant form of sociality among the participants, which they connect with being in an autistic space. The second may be viewed as a counter-dominant form of sociality among the participants, which they connect with being in spaces dominated by non-autistic people.

Doing it differently: emancipatory autism studies within a neurodiverse academic space2019In: Disability & Society, ISSN 0968-7599, E-ISSN 1360-0508Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

In the current research climate, in which many autistic and autism communities are increasingly calling for a move towards collaborative forms of research, we consider how a loosely formed epistemological community may serve to challenge 'business as usual' in the academy. Mindful of the need to move beyond theory, we use this experience to concretely consider how knowledge about autism and neurotypicality can be meaningfully (co)-produced, and made available both to the research community and also to autistic and autism communities. Here, we use our own co-production of this article to explore how autistic experience may trouble normative meanings of academic knowledge production. We also consider the limits and possibilities of a neurodiverse research collaboration to reflect on ways in which a loose epistemological space may serve to contribute to knowledge about both autism and neurotypicality, adding to debate around collaborative research.

Enterprises in the suburbs and the locality of entrepreneurship2017In: Great regional awakening: new directions / [ed] Lesa Reynolds, 2017Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Suburbs represent an essential subject for regional studies and have a rapidly increasing economic significance within wider metropolitan regions (Phelps 2010). It is necessary to create inclusive suburbs with a stronger identity. The current growth of populations in major cities requires an ability to reorganize existing cities and a massive restructuring of urban infrastructure (Modarres and Kirby 2010). The interpretation of the needs of suburbs have previously called for a transdisciplinary and collaborative strategy (Després et al. 2004). We look at entrepreneurship and different types of 21 businesses as a source of vitalization of suburbs. These ventures are studied in the context of the diversity of the population of suburb. Entrepreneurial investments, the establishment of high impact enterprises as well as networking among local and migrant businesses represent elements that can vitalize previously marginalized suburbs. Enterprises that are clustered in suburban neighborhoods reflect the different impacts of suburban and city spatial forms. Newly arrived citizens draw upon the critical mass of ethnic members to form a niche market for ethnic business (Fong et al. 2007). Minorities may have limited access to financial capital in the larger urban economy, but ethnic enclaves may provide a source of a unique competitive advantage (Cummings 1999). Entrepreneurship rooted in a suburban surrounding represent a specific opportunity to become embedded in an economic and spatial dimension. The migrant may be seen as representing a diversity capital which penetrate specific market conditions located in ethnically diverse neighborhoods situated in the suburbs of major cities. The spatial and entrepreneurial dimension of ethnic business can thereby be given a relevant context for interpretation.

"Vi hinner inte med helt enkelt": En studie om bilden av socialsekreterare i svensk dagspress2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The aim of this study was to give understanding to the representations of social workers in the daily press in Sweden. The empirical material of this study consists of 120 articles published in the morning newspapers Dagens Nyheter and Svenska Dagbladet in the years of 2015 and 2016. The method used were qualitative analysis of ideas and content analysis and the analytical framework used is based on ideas about social workers that has been identified in previous research. The analysis is based mainly on four ideas of social workers as the media describes the profession.

From the results it appears that socials workers are mainly described as victims due to systematic and structural shortages. The descriptions of social workers as helpers and incompetent are often linked to the description of them as victims. The description of social workers as cruel and malicious are fewer than the other categories and are limited to specific areas presented in the news.

Binge drinking in adolescence: Social stratification and the collectivity of drinking cultures2018In: European Journal of Social Work, ISSN 1369-1457, E-ISSN 1468-2664, Vol. 21, no 1, p. 74-85Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Research investigating what shapes young people’s drinking habits is of great importance. This study aimed to analyse the relation between close social networks and adolescents’ drinking habits and the extent to which close social networks may explain differences in binge drinking among social groups. Data from the ‘Stockholm Survey 2012’ were analysed. The Stockholm Survey was a census survey administered to students in academic years 9 and 11, with a response rate of 76%. Ordered logit models were used to estimate relations between the frequency of binge drinking and the independent variables. Parental educational level is associated with adolescent binge drinking, as students with more highly educated parents are more frequent binge drinkers. Parents’ willingness to offer their teenagers alcohol and peers’ drinking habits are also associated with adolescent binge drinking, with a more permissive parental attitude and a prevalence of drinking among peers increasing the risk. Both parents’ willingness to provide alcohol and peers’ drinking habits may statistically explain a large portion of the observed differences in adolescent drinking by parental education. Close social networks are an important factor influencing adolescent binge drinking, and they may explain a large portion of the differences between social groups.

    Abstract [en]

The main reason for this study has been to explore the healthcare professionals' perception of the hospital social workers role in emergency care. The main questions have dealt with how the hospital social worker is perceived and why that perception may be the case. The study is a qualitative study done by interviewing and observing. The interviews were conducted at several emergency care departments in Sweden. Three doctors, three nurses and three assistant nurses were interviewed. The interviewers' answers were then coded according to Grounded theory where the result emerged according to the respondents main concern. The main concern of the study resulted in the concept of accessibility. This was then analyzed trough KAIMeR which was the theoretical model. Helping to create an understanding of how accessibility could be so influential. This was further analyzed by role theory in order to be able to explain how accessibility could affect the care personnel's perception of the hospital social worker. The conclusion of the study was that accessibility constituted the summarized perception of the hospital social worker. Analyzed through KAIMeR we recognizedaccessibility as a parameter that could change outcome. Applying role theory we saw inter-role conflicts that negatively affected collaboration.

    Abstract [en]

Co-morbidity in the form of mental health problems and an addiction has become increasingly noticeable and commonplace, which places higher demands than ever on a functioning collaboration or integration between psychiatric- and addiction care amongst open care. The purpose of this study, in addition to highlighting the perceived scope of co-morbidity, is to identify existing collaboration and improvement areas through qualitative interviews with professionals from two different organizations within the two care areas. In addition, the purpose is also to see how staff within the two activities relate to what it means for clients and patients to be diagnosed with two stigmatized diagnoses. The theoretical frame of reference this study uses is the theory of collaboration and Goffman's theory of stigma, as well as previous research that concerns collaboration and co-morbidity. The data consists of four semi-structured interviews with professionals in the two care areas in a selected municipality. The result shows that all respondents perceive co-morbidity as widespread and extensive, and that the collaboration is appreciated and desirable - but requires both the motivation and the will of the staff to function effectively. Furthermore, the results show that it is primarily in addiction care to work actively and explicitly to de-stigmatize the individual and liberate it from shame and guilt, even if the actor within psychiatric care also considers itself to be relatively de-stigmatized.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to study women's access to public space in particularly vulnerable suburbs within the area of Järva in Stockholm County. This study is based on a qualitative research method and has its foundation in semistructured interviews with ten women, telling about their experiences of living in particularly vulnerable suburbs within the area of Järva in Stockholm County. The results and analysis of the study are based on some theoretical starting points and chosen themes: The Female Role and Patriarchate, Power and Freedom and Repression and Symbolic Violence.

The result has shown that what affects women's access to public space in particularly vulnerable suburbs in the area of Järva in Stockholm County is the limited power and freedom of women and the prevailing patriarchate system, in the form of a patriarchal society. The results show that men, through different methods such as through repression and symbolic violence, master, exploit and repress women in public space in particularly vulnerable suburbs. This happens through direct actions and through indirect actions, through various forms of oppression and symbolic violence. Women are not treated in the same way as men in public space, and can be interpreted as men not seeing women as important as men or that men as a group consider themselves to be superior women as a group. The results also show that women are restricted from acting for free will because of the current picture of "the female role" and because women, according to men, may not deviate from the norm.

Overall, the study shows that women have limited access to public space in these particularly vulnerable suburbs in the area of Järva in Stockholm County. The outcome of the study should be considered as a major problem for society, because women are involuntarily assigned a subordinate position to men who make up the norm, which is not fair.

"Absolut det svåraste jobb jag någonsin haft": En kvalitativ studie om behandlares upplevelser av mötet med män som utövar våld i nära relationer2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Avsaknadens erfarenheter: En studie om barnfamiljers upplevelser av ekonomisk utsatthet2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Drug control policies in Russia: unhealthy, deviant, and criminal2016In: Baltic Worlds, ISSN 2000-2955, Vol. IX, no 4, p. 12-22Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This article examines the policies on drug control and regulation in Russia. We demonstrate that, although agencies involved in drug con-trol and regulation are important for the reproduction of differentiated practices of drug use, they formulate a rather homogeneous image of a drug user as an unhealthy deviant and criminal, and an unequivocal threat to society. At the same time, in the process of policy realization, the most vulnerable groups of users become the main target of public intervention. As a result, stigmatization and violence against these groups becomes institutionalized and legitimized. Moreover, drug control and regulation resonate with a broader range of public policies and spill over into parts of society not associated with illicit drug use.

Den överhängande risken att utsättas för våld i prostitution finns - oavsett verksamhetsområde: En jämförande kvalitativ studie om prostituerade kvinnors utsatthet att erfara våld av sexköpare2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The aim of this study was to provide the reader with an insight into the violence that accompanies prostitution and that the imminent risk of violence is present regardless of whether the woman is active in “off-street” or “on-street” prostitution. The purpose has been to carry out a comparative study of the vulnerability to violence by sex buyers that women in “off-street” and “on-street” prostitution experience. In addition, a qualitative content analysis of Swedish biographies on prostitution was used to study how women in prostitution described their meetings with sex buyers. The main results are that there are differences in the violence that women experience from sex buyers and how they describe their experiences. These differences depended on whether the women were active in “off-street” or “on-street” prostitution. Based on the biographies, it was found that the women in “off-street” had a sexual self-harm, that a normalization process of the experienced violence could be distinguished and that women active “on-street” have an increased risk of being victimized according to the lifestyle theory. The conclusions of this study are that the theoretical aspects have a significant role in what kind of violence women in prostitution experience from sex buyers.

Föreställningar om våldsutsatta män i samkönade relationer; exempel från stödgivande samhällsinstanser.2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Statistics show that very few men exposed to domestic violence, either in heterosexual or same-sex relationships, contact any social service. Although domestic violence is often restricted to being defined the same as heterosexual relationships as same-sex relationships, knowledge about violence in same-sex relationships is inadequate. The purpose of this study was to examine if any perception and understanding of violence in same-sex relationships exist within supporting community instances, focusing on male victims of domestic violence. The study containing eight qualitative interviews with respondents within supporting community instances. The result is presented under the themes “stödgivande samhällsinstansers bemötande”, “heteronormativa föreställningar kring våldsutsatta män”, “möjlighet till stöd och skydd” and “outing och skam”. To notice is that the result showed that perceptions about heteronormativity can affect which type of support and protection male victims of domestic violence is given. Lastly, a discussion about the developed result around the inadequate knowledge about violence in same-sex relationships will be held. The conclusions of the study were that there is a heteronormative approach within some of the supporting community instances we interviewed. There are also suggestions for future research and therefore needs to be studied at length.

The principle of help to self-help in Sweden: A study of representations and norms regarding old age and care needs and their moral and ethical implications for care work2018In: Nordic Social Work Research, ISSN 2156-857X, E-ISSN 2156-8588Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this article is to describe and analyse the principle of help to self-help in care work and the representations of and norms on old age and care needs supporting the principle in relation to moral and ethical aspects. The article is based on the results of a study conducted in a small rural Swedish municipality in 2006–2008 and a study conducted in a big city in 2014 and 2015. The material consists of interviews with first line managers, care workers and care receivers. The results of this article show that the principle of help to self-help in the care of older people exists in both public sector home care in a small municipality and a home care system in a major city with customer choice system. The results also show that representations of and norms on old age and care needs highlight the normative value of help to self-help, which has both ethical and moral dimensions. In the care of older people this is translated into care receivers maintaining their mental and physical strength which challenges the value of care receivers’ self-determination.

    Abstract [en]

The aim of this study was to illustrate male and females own experiences of codependency. In this study has an qualitative approach been used and the material consists of eight pre-recorded conversations, podcast episodes, published on the Internet. The empirical material has been analyzed from a theory of family roles and a gender perspective. It showed that the participants in this study has been negatively affected by growing up in an environment characterized of abuse or mental illness and felt that they had embraced one or more roles to manage their life situation. The result also showed that the participants had experienced negative consequences in adult life. The result of this study also showed that developing codependency was equally common among both male and female in this study, though were there differences between how male and females express their codependency. The females experienced a feeling of isolation, became quiet and reclusive and the males experienced that they had a more externalizing behavior. The experience of taking a big responsibility in childhood and adolescence was equally common among the participants of this study and led to that their own needs were ignored. The negative consequences of codependency and their connection to the gender norms of today were also discussed.

    Abstract [en]

For the majority of the 2000th century welfare and social services in Sweden were almost synonymous with the universalistic welfare-solutions provided by the nation state.  In the late 1980th and the early 1990th a dramatic change occurred through extensive market reforms the monopolistic welfare-solutions were challenged in favor for a pluralistic welfare market. A competitive welfare-market would increase efficiency and quality of services. But what is quality in welfare and social services?

Through a two-part study, using in city of Stockholm as a case and institutional organizational theory and theories on quasi-markets this study has investigated and problematized quality in city of Stockholm’s special housing for the elderly voucher system.

Social capital - a mixed blessing for women? A cross-sectional study of different forms of social relations and self-rated depression in Moscow2016In: BMC Psychology, E-ISSN 2050-7283, Vol. 4, no 1, article id 37Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

BACKGROUND: Depression is a major health problem worldwide, especially among women. The condition has been related to a number of factors, such as alcohol consumption, economic situation and, more recently, to social capital. However, there have been relatively few studies about the social capital-depression relationship in Eastern Europe. This paper aims to fill this gap by examining the association between different forms of social capital and self-rated depression in Moscow. Differences between men and women will also be examined, with a special focus on women.

METHODS: Data was obtained from the Moscow Health Survey, which was conducted in 2004 with 1190 Muscovites aged 18 years or above. For depression, a single-item self-reported measure was used. Social capital was operationalised through five questions about different forms of social relations. Logistic regression analysis was undertaken to estimate the association between social capital and self-rated depression, separately for men and women.

RESULTS: More women (48 %) than men (36 %) reported that they had felt depressed during the last year. An association was found between social capital and reported depression only among women. Women who were divorced or widowed or who had little contact with relatives had higher odds of reporting depression than those with more family contact. Women who regularly engaged with people from different age groups outside of their families were also more likely to report depression than those with less regular contact.

CONCLUSIONS: Social capital can be a mixed blessing for women. Different forms of social relations can lead to different health outcomes, both positive and negative. Although the family is important for women's mental health in Moscow, extra-familial relations across age groups can be mentally distressing. This suggests that even though social capital can be a valuable resource for mental health, some of its forms can be mentally deleterious to maintain, especially for women. More research is needed on both sides to social capital. A special focus should be placed on bridging social relations among women in order to better understand the complex association between social capital and depression in Russia and elsewhere.

    Abstract [en]

The aim of this study was to examine how authors on Instagram describe masculinity norms. We aimed to further analyse how the authors illustrate the consequences of masculinity norms in relation to social problems. The study is based on 25 posts from authors on Instagram which were analysed by a content analysis method. The theoretical framework in this study consists of Connells (1995, 2008) theory of masculinity. A conception of socialization is also included (Connell 1995, 2009). The results indicated that masculinity norms have a negative impact on men by how they are expected to be, what they are expected to feel, what is allowed for them to talk about, how they should act and what sexual desires they should have. Furthermore, the study showed how masculinity norms lead up to social problems such as reluctance to seek help and using violence against others. The main conclusion of this study was that social problems often are based on the fact that men, due to present masculinity norms, are in need of proving, defending or maintaining their masculinities in different contexts. The man himself along with everyone around him are the one who pays for the consequences of masculinity norms.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this C-thesis is to examine the employment agents and specialist´s views and experiences of disability coding at the Employment Service. The study is based on investigating why employment agents and specialists use disability coding, what determines who should be coded and how the officials believe the code can be experienced by those who are the subject of it. The result also shows that the coding is a control function for the Public Employment Service's own activities so that it will be visible in the systems which job seekers that have extra needs and to report statistics to the government. It also emerges from the result that a disability code is not always based on medical evidence about the one to be coded, but many times solely on the employment agents and specialists own assessments of how the life situation is for the job seeker and what problems they may have. Finally, it emerges from the result that the officials views on the impact of coding on the individuals being coded are quite unanimous as they consider that coding is positive for the one assigned to it because it allows a chance to be employed, even though some officials may understand that the categorization can be perceived as stamping or categorizing.

Att arbeta inom socialtjänsten: En studie om medias framställning av socialarbetares arbetsmiljö2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The fact that the media is involved and creates the public's perception of reality is perhaps nothing you think of daily. Based on their design, the mass media has a great power to influence how the public interprets different social phenomena. The aim of this study was to find which framing the media creates by the social workers' work environment and its effects. As well as which image media conveys to the public. The study's questions intended to examine how the social workers' work environment was presented, what conditions that emerged were linked to the work environment and which participants were to be heard in articles. To achieve our results, a framing analysis was carried out, by framing how the journalists strategically, consciously or unknowingly, produced what they want to convey. To our help in the analysis work, the framing theory was used to be able to find out how the media portray and produce the social workers' work environment and its effects. The 15 analyzed newspaper articles used for the study were published between 2014–2019. There were no particularly large differences in how the journalists described the social workers' working conditions between the time span examined. It emerged, among other things, that the social service as a workplace is presented as an unhealthy workplace and that social workers flee due to heavy work demands and because of a work environment characterized by threats and violence. The frames that emerged clearly in the study were general frames. Which are formed by a media logic that the journalists themselves created, that is, based on news editorial values, practices and routines. The significance of how the different frames influence is discussed in the study as well as what effects the various participants that may come to speak has influence on the public.

    Abstract [en]

In this study, the social worker ́s moral values and reasoning are investigated in a situation where the police require her to handle out secret classified information about a client with deportation decisions. The study was conducted with a qualitative vignette method in which10 respondents, all working social workers at the social services, responded to a fictitiou scase, answering ten questions about values, dilemmas and decision-making. Data has been analyzed using a content analysis. The analysis was carried out through Zygmunt Bauman and Tim May's theory of man ́s moral action as well as Simone de Beauvoir's theory of man'sexercise of freedom. The result shows that all respondents are critical to the police's orders and they all experience a conflict between personal values and work obligations. The majority state that they would put aside their personal values and primarily act on basis ofwhat they consider to be the duty to work. at the same time the majority describe compromising strategies, where they let their personal values take place through silent and individual resistance strategies, in order to bypass the perceived moral dilemma. Inconclusion, the results show a great variation in the social workers actions and perception ofpersonal and professional responsibility and their freedom.

    Abstract [en]

The aim of this study was to examine how elderly with mental illness is assured help and support within the municipal elderly care in Stockholm. The aim was further on to receive an increased understanding of the social workers professional role and experiences in their work regarding elderly with mental illness. The empirical data has been obtained through group-and individual interviews with social workers operative within the elderly care in Stockholm, in addition to a qualitative text analysis. Based on the study's theoretical concepts: grass-roots bureaucracy, discretion and the principle of normalisation, the empirics has been analysed. The result indicates a deficiency of resources, a lack of knowledge regarding mental illness amongst the elderly, in addition to mental illness being difficult to define. Further on, aspects of restricted discretion and a lack of the normalization principle are described, which depictures that needs of the elderly individuals are set in relation to standardised efforts and resource priorities. To conclude, a reflection about how the municipal elderly care and its aim possibly would have altered if the principle of normalisation was implemented and based upon a model of rights.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of the essay is to investigate how legal certainty is for abusive women and men. This is done by analyzing how the Administrative Court in Stockholm describes women and men in the appealing court decision regarding the preparation of care according to Care of Abusers Act (LVM). The empirical material consists of 20 judicial decisions from the Administrative Court. In order to reach a deeper understanding of the role of gender norms in the judiciary, the survey has been conducted with a gender perspective based on the purpose of the paper, we have considered questions about how women and men are described and whether there are any gender differences in the appealing court decision. To answer the questions, a text analysis based on a hermeneutic approach has been made, then linking the analyzed text in relation to previous research and the chosen theoretical concepts: social construction, stigma and gender. The general conclusions we have reached are that the gender differences described in the court coincide with the general gender norms in the society by describing the gender in various ways in the law application of LVM. This means that the Administrative Court does not fully consider everyone's resemblance to the law according to the principle of equality and objectivity in Instrument of Government (RF). The conclusions are explained by describing how gender is made in a construction process.

Integrationsarbete "med" eller "för" medborgarna?: En jämförande textanalys av underlagen till två statliga integrationssatsningar, Storstadssatsningen och Nya långsiktiga reformprogrammet för minskad segregation2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The aim of this study is to examine and compare the preparatory work of two government efforts to diminish segregation in Sweden: Storstadssatsningen and Nya långsiktiga reformprogrammet för minskad segregation. We have, by a qualitative textual analysis, examined how these preparatory works represent the citizen, their intention, efforts and goals and how the influence and participation by the citizen is intended to meet the needs of recipients of these efforts. The vulnerable citizen is represented in the same way in both preparatory works. Similarities that can be seen are citizens described with a lack of competencies and defined by the problems of their neighbourhood. There are differences concerning how citizens by ethnicity are described. The goals and achievements, which have been compared in both preparatory works, are focused on work and education as instruments to breach segregation. Participation and the influence by the citizen is given a great deal of space in Storstadssatningen, but hardly no space in Nya långsiktiga reformprogrammet för minskad segregation.

We can see a much harder climate in the community, with increased segregation, where citizens without power and participation develops alienation and where the gap between groups increase. With a perspective of integration and concepts of empowerment and mobilization, we examine possibilities for an alteration. We examine the representation of this methods in both preparatory works.

In this study, we can see defects in the government welfare systems, which urges a responsibility, in the social work, to define and work with new methods.
