Play therapy in hosital : A qualitative study of Hospital Play Specialists view of the importance of play for children in hospital (English)
Abstract [en]

The purpose of my study is to examine how the Hospital Play Specialists looks at the importance of play for children in the hospitalenvironment. The thesis is based on qualitative research interviews. This means that respondents followed an interview guide with questions. These questions I compiled in advance. The main theme in the interviews has been the characteristics and importance of play. The interviews were conducted with six Hospital Play Specialists in three different hospitals in Stockholm. The results of the survey show that the informants agree about play therapy's positive impact for children in hospital environment.By empirical data, theory and previous research, I have found three main components which is primary conditions for children's play in hospital. The first is how the child is feeling. The second is access to play stimulating environment and authentic materials. The third component and probably the most important, is how the Hospital Play Therapist herself is with the child.
