Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

During the season of 2013/2014 there were four women leaders working at the highest position within Swedish elite hockey which represented 15 percent. RF’s equality is that the proportion of representatives should be at least 40 percent. Why do few women hold leading positions in Swedish elite hockey?

The question is answered by interviews with the female managers who entered the organizations and thereby obtain greater understanding of women's leadership in a male-dominated industry. Previous research shows that a normative resistance meets women who are trying to climb the rank which is demonstrated in the theories about “tokens” and the glass ceiling. In today's society this has led to an increasing debate about affirmative action to be or not to be.

The result shows that common traits were straightness and tendency to take risks which is characterized by the female leaders within the Swedish elite icehockey. The study generally showed that the women were met positively in their professional role. The recruitment process within the icehockey branch was found to occur through the social sphere were men are in substantial majority. Historically conditions are one of the reasons, according to the study, to why there are few women at leading position.
