Abstract [en]

The goal of this essay is to describe the cultural identity of five women 20–26 years old, born and raised in Sweden but with a Serbian background, how their cultural identity is formed while living in diaspora. The analyze of cultural identity is based on Stuart Hall and his definition of cultural identity. The concept of hybrid identity is analyzed with the definition of Homi K. Bhabha. Diaspora is defined and explained thru John McLeods perspective.

The study shows that all women had a different cultural identity despite their heritage and the fact that they all were born and raised in Sweden. Although each and every one of them had created a hybrid cultural identity, something they all had in common, but on a individual level.
