Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study has been to establish how teachers use the interactive whiteboard and to see what advantages and disadvantages it means for the education. I have looked at how the interactive whiteboard works and how it can be integrated into the education.

I chose to do a qualitative study with interviews and observations of six teachers with various subjects. The study shows that the interactive whiteboard is used as a big computer screen which allows the teacher to show films, pictures and texts. The students can be directly involved in creating the lessons together with the teacher. The material presented on the screen can be saved and used again later for repetition or for further explanation to students who were absent at the lesson or who did not understand something that was presented. Some teachers use the modern technic itself to catch the student’s interest and to motivate them. The disadvantages of the interactive whiteboard that emerged in the study are that the teachers lack training in Notebook software and that the pen function of the whiteboard is not so good since you have to push the pen very hard and you cannot incline your hand on the board.
