Truth and the Hermeneutic Experience: A Phenomenological Approach to the Theory of Interpretation
Södertörn University College, Avdelning 1, Philosophy.ORCID iD: 0000-0003-3210-4712
2003 (English)In: Metaphysics, Facticity, Interpretation: Phenomenology in the Nordic Countries / [ed] Hans Ruin, Dan Zahavi, Sara Heinämaa, Dordrecht: Kluwer Academic Pub , 2003, 167-194 p.Chapter in book (Other academic)
Abstract [en]

The article explores how the problem of truth surfaces in the contemporary theory of interpretation and implicitly guides how we view what interpretation is. It has two main sections, the first of which contains a brief historical survey of how the problem of truth has surfaced in hermeneutical theory from Schleiermacher to Hirsch. The second attempts to formulate, in a phenomenological spirit, a systematic understanding of what truth can mean in the context of interpretation.
