This thesis is about how masculinity and criminality is portrayed in Swedish gangster rap. The main aim of the thesis is to find out what view four young men in Stockholm have on Swedish gangster rap and its portrayal of criminality. The reason why I chose to focus on young men, is because gangster rap is popular among men under the age of thirtyfive. Furthermore, the purpose of this thesis is to highlight the importance gangster rap has had in the men's lives and how they have been affected by listening to the music style on a personal level. I chose to implement the queer theory and discourse theory in the study, in order to analyze the collected material. The study was carried out by collecting data using song lyrics and the interview method. The results demonstrate that masculinity is portrayed in Swedish gangster rap through depictions of male performativity, firearms and heterosexuality. Criminality is depicted in Swedish gangster rap in relation to violence, drug dealing, weapons, money, and material things such as luxury cars. The results from the interviews highlight the informants' views on how Swedish gangster rap glorifies the criminal lifestyle and encourages violence, drugs and criminality.
