Abstract [en]

This study has examined how five large Swedish companies in retail work with sustainability. The study is based on a qualitative research strategy where the data collection method was carried out as a content analysis. Data was collected and analyzed from five large companies sustainability reports, based on five general themes - strategy, ethics, legal, environment and stakeholders. The studys theoretical frame of reference consists of previous research in strategy, CSR and stakeholders. These contribute with an understanding of how sustainability and entrepreneurship are connected. The results of the study states that all companies sustainability work is based on conscious strategies and originates from UN's global goals and Agenda 2030, which can also be linked to CSR. Variations occur between the companies through selected focus areas, in which the companies invest different amounts of resources. In the context of certain complex and difficult to manage situations, extensive objectives are presented and discussed, instead of giving a explanatory statement of what the companies are doing. Laws are followed by companies in an opportunistic way as they all conduct business in countries with less strict laws. Finally, it can be stated that all companies have a great sensitivity to their stakeholders and that the companies profit-making purposes permeate their sustainability work.
