Jag hade själv tyckt om att läsa en sån här bok. Jag hade behövt den: Skaparproblematiken, melankolin och språket i Mare Kandres Bübins unge

Abstract [en]

My analysis on the novel Bübins unge (Bübin´s brat) by Mare Kandre is done from Julia Kristeva, the psychoanalytic and linquistic theorist, and her theory on the abjection, i.e. the forming of the subject through the separation from the mother, and the model of a “fortunate melancholic” described in Soleil noir. A fortunate melancholic is an individual who manage to survive through writing. He devotes himself to a “schitzoid parcelling”, an eroticized suffering and therefore a defence against death.

Moreover, in the theory on the melancholic Kristeva is labelling the Thing, the sadness he nurtures in the absence of the Other. The Thing is buried in him, in his mute anquish. In my analysis of the novel the Ting is represented by the character Ungen. When Kindchen, the main character, gets rid of Ungen, it symbolizes the abjection and the forming of a fortunate melancholic.

In addition to the analysis from the viewpoints of the abjection and the melancholic, I try to find and point out the melancholic impressions from Kandre in her novel. In that ambition I investigate her language. A melancholic author dyes the text with his memories of the body living in symbiosis with the mother, where the language of the libido existed. Hence the archaic form fits in to the distrust of language as the melancholic partly has. Sentences in the novel are ending in nowhere as they sometimes do, coincide with the depression and lethargy of the melancholic. I emphasize on expressions of the human body, describing sensations, libido and recurring, monotonous parts in the text. I consider the novel Bübins unge to be the key to the authorship of Mare Kandre; it tells us of her own motive power behind her art.

Mare Kandre, Bübins unge (1987). Julia Kristeva, Pouvoirs de l´horreur (1980) and Soleil noir (1987).
