Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to see through six qualitative interviews that’s been done of Telge Energi and its employees and see what changes they have experienced in their work life due to the pandemic that occurred in 2020. This study is also intended to examine what challenges employees face in relation to increased flexibility and what motivation which has been the basis for choosing between continuing to work in the office or from home. Allvins (2006) theory of boundless work and parts of Goffman's theory (2009) of the dramaturgical perspective will be applied in the study to create an understanding of how boundless work works and its consequences. Goffman's theory of the dramaturgical perspective will be applied in the study to see if employees and employers use idealization, impression control and role performance when the work takes place at a distance and the employers cannot see them in the normal work environment. Previous research has created an understanding of the subject of the study and supported our theoretical framework. The benefits that have been highlighted in the study's analysis are mainly about an increased balance between work and private life, a digital platform that has developed rapidly within the organization and that employees save time by not having to be in the office. The critical parts of working from home are described as difficulties to communicate between the employees, more difficult to get away from work and routines that no longer have the same structure. The study's conclusion shows that flexibility is a desirable job opportunity that opens up a great deal of freedom for the individual, but that it also comes with several negative consequences that make the individual face to draw their own conclusion, to consider the positive aspects against the negative aspects.
