The main aim of this study is to investigate to what extent there are differences in how everyday racism towards afroswedes, is expressed, experienced and handled different, based on gender. The study is based on theories about race and racism as social constructions, microaggressions in everyday life, gender racism and intersection. The empirical data was collected through semistructured interviews with a total of ten afroswedes, where of five men and five women. The results of the study show that there are considerable differences between gender regarding how everyday racism is expressed. Furthermore, the study also shows that there are differences based on gender regarding how men and women are treated when they confront the experienced racism. The study also shows that women are exposed to racism from a young age, but also that both men and women are exposed to gender racism based on their physical attributes and skincolour. Towards the women the gendered racism was expressed in a sexual and exotic way and for the men through suspicion and questionings, which the men mostly experienced as adults. The study also show that the women handle everyday racism different from the men. The women handle it by talking about their experiences with their loved ones, the men in the study handle everyday racism by keeping their experiences to themselves.
