This essay aims to explore different methods to manage conflicts, how conflicts arise and what could be done to prevent them. The purpose of the essay originates from a selfexperienced conflict in the leisure-time centre, in which a pupil was cutting the line to the afternoon snack, and after been told by both other pupils and us pedagogues, the conflict escalated to the point that the pupil in question turned to violence. In other words, a seemingly trivial conflict escalated to a violent one even though we pedagogues followed our school’s guidelines regarding how to manage conflicts, which made me wonder whether there are other methods that could be used. This is the dilemma that this essay tries to explore. To do so, essay writing is used as a method. I mention, compare, and reflect on different theories and models regarding the causes of conflicts and management of conflicts, and relate continuously in the essay to my self-experienced situation in the hopes of that it gives more weight to my reflections and some context. A overwhelming majority of the theory have been gathered from books, since it has throughout the work of this essay become evident that there is not much research on this topic, especially when it comes to Swedish schools and leisuretime centres. 

Den här uppsatsen syftar till att undersöka olika konflikthanteringsmetoder samt hur konflikter uppstår och vad som kan göras för att förebygga dem. Uppsatsen utgår ifrån en egenupplevd konfliktsituation på fritidshemmet, där en elev trängde sig i ledet till ”mellis”, och efter att ha blivit tillsagd av både andra elever och oss pedagoger, eskalerade till en konflikt med våld från eleven ifråga. En trivial konflikt eskalerade alltså till en våldsam konfliktsituation trots att vi följde skolans riktlinjer kring hur konflikter ska hanteras, och det fick mig som pedagog att undra över om det fanns andra sätt att hantera situationen på. Det är utifrån detta dilemma som undersökningen bygger på. Uppsatsen skrivs i form av en vetenskaplig essä. Jag nämner, jämför och reflekterar olika teorier och modeller om konflikters orsaker och konflikthantering, och relaterar kontinuerligt i texten till min egenupplevda situation för att på så sätt förhoppningsvis ge mer tyngd i mina reflektioner samt kontext. En övervägande del av teorin har hämtats från böcker, då det under arbetets gång blivit tydligt att det finns lite forskning inom ämnet, särskilt när det kommer till svensk skola och fritidshem.
