The purpose of this study was to investigate the organization Förenade förorter and the work performed by them. The focus was to study the methods used in their work as well as the goals and aims of their work. Furthermore, we focused och researching and seeking an understading of the organizations work through empowerment and social mobilization, and how this can be understood from a post-colonial perspective. Förenade förorter is a grassroots movement wich aims specifically towards young and young adults between ages 15–28 living in the suburbs. The purpose was to organize different suburbs trough culture and popular education. Förenade förorter gained national attention with their poetry slam competition” ortens bästa poet” where young people from all over Sweden participated.

In this study we conducted a group interview of a qualitative and semistructured form with two representatives from förenade förorter. The material was further analyzed with an interview analytical approach that helped us to organize, compress and clarify the implicit arguments in the data. The results of our study show how the post-colonial spect is relevant to the context wich Förenade förorter works within to understand what the problem is that they aim to change and how it appeared. We have also interpreted the material as that Förenade förorter conducts a new kind of social work, where new structures and attitudes towards working with young people are created.

Vi vill uttrycka ett stort tack till våra två respondenter som ställde upp och medverkade i vår studie genom att dela med sig av sina erfarenheter samt gjorde detta i förtroende till oss som studenter och forskare. Resultatet som framkom utifrån intervjuerna var avgörande och möjliggjorde denna typ av studie. Vi vill även tacka vår handledare Christophe Foultier som uppmuntrat oss och väglett oss genom denna period trots egna hälsosamma hinder, det uppskattar vi.

Arbetsfördelningen i studien som genomfördes har inneburit för Izahbella och Mikias att det givits ett gemensamt ansvar över de samtliga delarna av uppsatsen. De olika kapitlen har konstruerats, skrivits, redigerats, diskuterats och korrekturlästs gemensamt mellan de två studenterna för att kunna komplettera varandra i de olika delarna som utfördes i studien.
