Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to examine how the third Basel regulation has affected the profitability of European banks. The method used in this study has been a fixed effect paneldata regression with a dummy variable for year 2014 when the third Basel regulation was established. The study is limited to the years 2011 until 2018 due to data availability. Results show that there is a significant positive relationship between capital and profitability. In addition, results show that there is a negative relationship between credit risk and profitability. The Basel regulation and increased capital requirements have had a significant positive impact on the profitability of European banks.
