To examine this different perspectives from socialservices, voluntary organizations and former gang members will be brought up. Another purpose is to understand the role of the socialservices and voluntary organizations during the process of gang distance. In order to find this out we have used queries that investigates which factors that contributes to gang distance, perceived difficulties and how the socialservices and voluntary organization works with these youths. In this study we have chosen to focus on gang distance and youths in the projects.

This study is a qualitative study based on nine semi-structured interviews. The theoretical framework has been based on the theories of socialties, turning points and stamping theory. The results shows that the reason to gang distance can differ, it can be based on maturity, getting tired of the lifestyle, witnessing violence, meeting a partner or having a supportive family. Difficulties related to gang distance was shown to be about relations to the gang, conditions and being able to move. Important factors while working with gang distance was motivationalwork, cooperation and building relations.
